Each socket can be controlled individually by Alexa

Does this require internet access ? Can you operate this directly rather than having to sign up and connect to some foreign servers ?

Had one a while ago that did this so gave up on these devices, I'm wondering if there is anything better around now

I have a few of this model, was able to set them up without internet access using scripts derived from the info discovered here: Reverse Engineering the TP-Link HS110 | softScheck . I think there are various implementations of it around the place by now.

Big Caveat: this was with whatever firmware they shipped with a year or so ago. That may have changed to one that can't be accessed locally to set up (true of some/all single plugs, AIUI). I block mine accessing tp-link servers using my pi-hole, in case they try to update themselves.

Since you have Home Assistant, then I think all you need from the scripts is to set up the wifi login, and HA should hopefully then be able to take it from there (either finding them itself or by entering their IP somewhere). I don't know how the relevant plug-in(s) handle the different cases - as in, one way is entirely local, the other is talking to tp-link servers, and I guess HA can handle controlling them either way.

(I'm not familiar with HA, since mine are doing a specific job along with OctoPrint remote controlling 3D printers from another PC - one socket each for printer, lighting, and RPi. Somewhat superfluous, but it is nice to be able to see on the camera feed that the printer has indeed turned off, before the Pi shuts down setting an off timer for its own socket as it does so). Could have done with a 4 or 5 socket extension with KASA Tp link. Good deal though

They actually do a 6 way one in other countries (no good here) but it costs around £90

Not sure I'd invest in any more Kasa stuff. It's getting harder to find, and is allegedly being phased out. I have a whole load of stuff presently. Not sure there is any commitment to that line of products from TP Link whereas the cheaper Tapo stuff doesn't fill all the gaps but is more available, Amazon etc. I have 2 of these strips, they are good products, always been reliable. Shame it's not a strip of 4 like many trailing extension sockets.

Would definitely buy this if it did power consumption monitoring too. Shame it doesn't, like some of the TP-Link individual plugs.

I know it is just like plug but I prefer plugs as they are used at different places in house like heated airer or fan without remote. I have many extension cables in house but I don’t see using this anywhere.

Damn it's a shame they don't let you switch on and off USB power too - smaller strips are awfully useful for this in cabinet lighting, etc. It's something I see too rarely actually.

A family member had this (and ofc) needed help to set it up, biggest issue was the crazy short power lead - half a metre!

Edit: looks like this was an older model, this one says 1 metre - still too short tbh (edited)

Don’t people feel weird talking to Alexa thing rather than using app and pressing I think it’s quicker than talking to google Alexa turn the plug off lol? App > press off or that too hard for people now days I guess lol (edited)
