Big Caveat: this was with whatever firmware they shipped with a year or so ago. That may have changed to one that can't be accessed locally to set up (true of some/all single plugs, AIUI). I block mine accessing tp-link servers using my pi-hole, in case they try to update themselves.
Since you have Home Assistant, then I think all you need from the scripts is to set up the wifi login, and HA should hopefully then be able to take it from there (either finding them itself or by entering their IP somewhere). I don't know how the relevant plug-in(s) handle the different cases - as in, one way is entirely local, the other is talking to tp-link servers, and I guess HA can handle controlling them either way.
(I'm not familiar with HA, since mine are doing a specific job along with OctoPrint remote controlling 3D printers from another PC - one socket each for printer, lighting, and RPi. Somewhat superfluous, but it is nice to be able to see on the camera feed that the printer has indeed turned off, before the Pi shuts down setting an off timer for its own socket as it does so). Edit: looks like this was an older model, this one says 1 metre - still too short tbh (edited)
