DOBEK3
Which? Review on this model
What is it?
This freestanding washer has plenty of features, and as it’s a smart appliance you can control it from your smartphone or tablet using the SmartThings app. It also has a smart control panel that remembers your favourite settings and lists these first – so you don’t have to scroll through a host of others to find the one you use most often.
Another time-saving feature is the autodose dispenser. This holds a month’s worth of detergent and softener, and only takes as much as it needs for each wash – so there’s no risk of overdoing it with the suds.
Other features include Samsung’s ecobubble pre-mixing system. This infuses air, water and detergent before it enters the drum, which could help to lift stains more effectively at low temperatures.
Among the usual list of programs you’ll find eco, quick and steam hygiene washes. The display panel has a digital countdown timer to show you how long is left before the wash is finished, and you can delay the end by up to 24 hours so your laundry is ready exactly when you want it to be.
How well does it clean, rinse and spin?
It’s fantastic at cleaning synthetics, which come out stain-free. But it’s not quite as impressive on the cottons program, and at 40°C we noticed it left a couple of faint stains behind. Having said that, it’s by no means the worst we’ve seen.
The rinse could cause a few issues for those with sensitive skin, as it struggles to remove residual detergent. You can remedy this by using the extra-rinse button.
The 1,400rpm spin removes plenty of excess water, so clothes aren’t left in a soggy heap at the bottom of the drum.
How much does it cost to run?
This model has an A energy rating (that’s equivalent to A+++ under the old labelling system). And our measurements agree; it uses less energy than most, saving you money and helping the environment. It doesn’t use too much water, either.
Is it easy to use and live with?
Some of the symbols on the control panel are a little confusing at first, but once you’re used to it the programs easy to set. The drum isn’t too difficult to load and unload.
Programs are quicker than most 9kg-capacity machines, with the 40°C cotton wash taking less than two and a half hours. But you’ll need to balance this against the fact that some slower washers are better at cleaning – so speed isn’t always an advantage.
Should I buy it?
No. Despite this Samsung being quick and cheap to run, its cleaning isn’t up to the high standard set by our Best Buy washers, and the lacklustre rinse could mean you find the odd speck of powder left behind on your clothes. (edited)
