Are many people still using tumble dryers on here? With the energy crisis I’ve been drying everthing on an airer for free, only thing I do is the towels for 20 mins to make them soft (edited)

if you are in the market for a drier a heat pump one uses somewhere between a third less to half as much power as many conventional driers per load but in return it takes them much longer to do it.

people with seasonal alergies will usually dry clothes in a tumble because line drying will saturate their clothes in pollen this time of year.

I have an AEG dryer purchased from John Lewis a while back for around £100 more than this. It is a brilliant dryer but I hate to say that it shrinks clothes. I only use it for towels and heavier items like bed linen as I don't trust it for shirts and t-shirts. In winter it does the job so in that sense it's worth it. Not bulky and easy to move.

I don't think you're talking about a heat pump dryer, they operate at much lower temperatures and one of the great features, they are gentle on clothes and dont shrink stuff (edited)

Heat added and ordered. Had ordered an AEG model from AO which is very similar to this with a retro door (not the best looking) for £483, cancelled that order and placed this as it looks much better! Thanks

Great deal. I would guess that code is specific for holders of the Blue Light Card. Whether or not allowed for general use I'm not sure. Though the Perks at Work code that I could use is also for 20%.

My bugbear of many heat pump dryers is that many only turn one way (due to the mechanics of the device) leaving sheets in a ball. However, I believe this AEG does reverse going by some Amazon reviews, which is great to have.

Not specific. This a generic code that AEG always have, it's not unique to a user.

Nice! I've just saved 480 squids by hanging the washing out on the line

(jokes aside, great price for those who are in the market for one)

I have a slightly older model, AEG are an awesome brand (Electrolux premium). I bought this over a Miele. The Miele would have impressed my guests, but the AEG saves me money which is more important

There was a time when both competed with each other. It's clear that Electrolux are trying to restore AEG to its former glory. More German made products and better finish and quality. If they sort their aftersales support out, it'd be a serious contender!

50276335-rJGai.jpgI have an AEG oven which is great and an AEG fridge freezer which is awful quality. So not sure it is a top end brand since Electrolux acquired the name rights, who they sub-licence to other manufacturers by the way. Take your pick for where this could be manufactured. (edited)

Manufactured in Poland as per description on AO’s website. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing however I won’t turn my nose at something that’s been developed elsewhere.

You’d like to think the manufacturing process for a company like AEG is high standard regardless of where it’s made.  (edited)

Anyone use a heat pump in a garage successfully? I've heard performance of energy efficiency drops so I've stuck with my condenser for now, would appreciate other people's experiences though:)

I'm currently in Turkey on holiday, trying to order this but as soon as I add to the basket it's going from.£549 to £849. Has it now expired?
    sukhi_singh_1's avatar
Still showing at the reduced price for me, might be due to being in Turkey?

Heat pump dryers are all flawed by design as you can't remove and therefore clean the condenser. Eventually dust will build up in them as no filter captures 100% fluff.
So the dryer recycles dirty air containing wet smelly mouldy fluff back into your freshly washed clothes. (edited)
    whitman_the_cat's avatar
You're right that they cannot capture all the fluff. When the heat exchanger is covered is then covered in said damp fluff, the air just cannot circulate properly. On my old model, it was never mouldy or smelly. It did mean noticeably degraded performance taking a very long time to dry.

Though there was a flap to access it and it could be cleaned. Only the front had any build up. It was just an extra occasional cleaning step, but I learned the hard way not to use fingers as those fins can be sharp.

The LG I have now doesn't have the flap and sprays water at the HE to clean it automatically. Time will tell how effective that is.
