YouTube: Ridiculous amount of adverts nowadays, ruining the experience i am mostly viewing via my TV.

Most you can't skip past either a couple of years ago was so much better!

I mostly watch on TV unfortunately.
    Hit & run comment:
    • investigate Pi-Hole / DNS adblock application, and/or:
    • investigate VPN on router / access point feeding TV that is set to access geo-locations of Albania or Moldova or Myanmar.

If success with either please post back with results (to save me the time completing same exercise!).
    Thanks

    Pi-Hole doesn't block YouTube ads.

The adverts seem to depend on the videos you watch as well. Long playlists (1-2hrs) or live music streams seem to have zero ads whereas watching 20 different music videos they throw I'm an add after every 2 or 3 videos. (edited)

agreed far too many ads. purchased a second hand fire stick and installed smarttube for ad free viewing on the TV. nice

How would I go about installing this on my firestick please, do I need to jailbreak it?

Revanced gang. No ads, auto skips sponsor crap talk.

I tried Revanced on my android mobile. It'd play about a minute then just freeze. And wouldn't budge after that on any video that I tried

If one had to use a VPN for example and went to, oh I dunno Argentina for example and signed up for YouTube premium there…. It only costs a fraction, in theory of course.

Use Firefox with ad blocker. I stopped using the app because of the ads.
Paying a fiver here and a tenner there for youtube spotify Netflix broadband phone line etc just eats away all my income. It's nice to have some entertainment but it's costly to go out it's becoming costlier to stay in (edited)

I don't have a YT sub and genuinely cannot remember the last time I saw an ad on YT.
If watching from Android mobile: Opera browser with integral adblock enabled,
or any browser on Windoze that can run "uBlock Origin" adblocker.

You can see they want people to sign up for their premium service

I used to notice a lot of adverts at regular intervals watching ITV (and other commercial stations) on my telly. Solution I hit upon:- Stopped watching! (Don't think I am missing anything)

In the UK, on commercial TV they are only allowed to show 7mins (8mins in eveing) of ads per rolling hour of tv and a max of 12mins per clock hour (5pm to 6pm say.)

My Youtube (on roku 4k stick) shows me two 15 second adverts before every video and on some rare occasions it allows me to skip it will show adverts sometimes 2mins into the video.

I think online streaming services should be the same as TV with a limit on ads per hour, and if you skip them the amount you did watch of said advert should be included in the total.

Are you saying YouTube has more than 7/8 minutes of adverts an hour? I find that hard to believe and would actually like to see some figures if that’s the case!

I mainly watch in a browser with uBlock or Adguard protecting me from ads. On my TV box I've installed Vanced and Newpipe which do the job perfectly.

Can't believe people watch YT with ads!

Pi-Hole works only with ITVX and Rakuten movies iirc for me.

Have you scrolled through listings on Amazon recently?? Every few there's a big video ad playing

Remember when they only had ads at the beginning of videos? A few years ago they started putting them in the middle too, so annoying not like Google need the money.

How annoying would it be if you were a shareholder or a content creator on there and saw your investment not returning much?

There are ways to skip adverts and block them, sadly though more and more content creators are doing in video promotions which of course can really be skipped.
