I've had one of these for quite a few years. They are pretty good but can leave a bit of a hole where the weed was. What I do is grab the weed with the puller, pull the weed just enough to free the root, release it, then pull it out by hand. I know it requires bending to get the weed out but you have to bend to fill the hole with soil anyway, unless you like your lawn looking like a putting green.

Buy some Glyphosate based herbacide and spray to your hearts content.

... use away if you also want to decimate your local bee population too, horrible stuff.

Waste of time and money. Fun to use with a satisfying crunch but leave big holes and you’ll still most loads of roots.

do it by hand the old fashioned way or selective weed killer like weedol for lawns.

I had one. But the handle came off. Robert Dyas honoured the returns even though it was slightly over a year. Bought another one.

Lots of weeds in my garden and hence this helps. I may need to think of an alternative though as weeds are growing in big bunches and we are not able to keep up.

I had one of these and may have been unlucky, but after about a year it broke.
It wouldn't grab the weed anymore. Maybe wear and tear, but seemed to be well built until then.

Same here, it’s broken but still working after learning to be more delicate with it.

Seems to me that a solution to the holes is to use the tool in an unseen and weed-free part of the lawn to dig out a series of plugs..
Then, once a weed has been pulled, just drop one of the plugs into the hole.
I'd get one of these tools, but my ground is very stony and I can't imagine that it would work very well. (edited)

Been using this, the holes it makes are good for your lawn, as it allows air to penetrate.

The holes will automatically cover over after a few weeks, so no need to fill up.

Automatically cover over with soil? Soil regeneration!?

I had loads of fun with this. I'll do more this weekend!

Its the pump action shotgun motion as you dump the weed in the bin that amuses me. Simple minds, simple pleasures

Frustrating on a rocky lawn. It pulls out huge plugs of soil and gets stuck with larger rocks. Means you have to dig bigger rocks out by hand. However it is much easier and quicker than digging out weeds. As it takes less time, you then do the lawn weeding more often and get better results.

Dig them out with a knife, simple.

Best to use after prolonged rain when the ground is 'moist' so dandelion comes out with as much root as possible, often all of it but sometimes the roots on these things is ridiculous. Fix the hole it leaves with any soil that comes out with the dandelion root.
