These don't tend to last long. Being out in all British weather rust out the bottom unfortunately. Good for a few burns though.

Mine three burns, rate of rust was astonishing. Not sure what the point of galvanising is when it rusts away to nothing in just 2 years.

I got to be of these a couple of years ago, good solid and a workhorse. Burnt a good lot of larger twigs the garden waste collection couldn’t take.

    Constructed from durable galvanised steel,,,

Not a lot of use once the first fire is made in them as the "protective" zinc is burnt off.

One interesting bit of info that esteemed HUKD members might like to contemplate is this:

"Zinc fumes are set free when galvanised steel is heated. These fumes are very toxic to breathe. Deposits of zinc from the fumes accumulate in the food. Utensils like ladles and galvanized-surfaced pails should not be used for food cooking."

    bucket-outlet.com/Is-…htm

The bin rusts like crazy once some bare iron/steel is exposed to rain.

The Zinc is a "sacrificial" so in the presence of the rusting process, it is the first metal to be attacked, thus delaying the severity of the rust formation at the beginning of the life of the galvanised object.

One last bit of info that might intrigue esteemed members is:

Exposure to Zinc Oxide can cause “metal fume fever.” This is a flu-like illness with symptoms of metallic taste in the mouth, headache, fever and chills, aches, chest tightness and cough. The symptoms may be delayed for several hours after exposure and usually last for a day or two.

See also Wikipedia for more info than you are ever likely to want to read in its entirety.

I know the technicians that smelted all sorts of alloys in the precious metal place I worked in many moons ago, always wore a full face mask like the ones that are the only one to 100% keep Covid out, none of those pathetic ill fitting squares of paper/cloth most of us are used to.

The effect of metal fume fever was not something they ever wanted to get (again). (edited)

Possibly a stupid question but would you need "permission" or need to let anyone know you were going to use it? Fire service etc?

No, not at all. Just don't burn plastics etc and consider your neighbours if they've got washing out or having a bbq etc.

use your green bin and don`t light fires.

We don't have green bins around here. The rate of tar spot on the sycamore leaves means that making leaf mould isn't an attractive idea either.

Use mine without permission all year round

Do not put batteries 🔋 etc in them (edited)

Not bad for free delivery - delivery is important for me with only having 2 wheels.
But have had one before and lasted about 2 years before it rusted to bits !
but it did get plenty of use, so happy enough with it.

Lucky that these weren't around during the witch trials it would have been carnage if every villager had one in their back yard for popping in suspected witches.
