Anyone got any thoughts on my situation?

Currently got a weber q2200 - very happy with the performance of it for me and the Mrs since picking it up in 2014. Just replaced the enamel grill plate for the first time and got the griddle plate which does smash burgers great. Would love a bigger griddle or a dedicated plancha at some point.

Been wanting to dabble with some coal/wood cooking again, specifically some lwo and slow type cooking - missed the aldi/lidl offerings in the last year at the £350 mark, the nutmeg £200 deal on here last year would have been an ideal testing point.

Reviews seem to suggest the joe jr can be pretty capable despite it size but thi is coming from someone with years of experience - is this a good gateway into ceramic egg style cooking? Is it more problematic for a newbie to start on which might put me off? If i did enjoy it, do they retain their value and could be sold off next year to upgrade to something bigger?

If it's just two of you, this is perfect. This can easily feed a family of 4. I bought this to compliment my larger KJ as it's sometimes extra hassle to cook a small lot of food (allowing for the ceramics to come to temp).

You'll find that if you did want to upgrade you might end up keeping this for the same reason. Also, buying second hand/used BBQs isn't that attractive to most and they would lose out on the very good warranty that KJ offer as it stays with the OG purchaser (fine if you offload it to a good mate or family as you can claim for them).

Rest assured, this will be night and day taste difference to your Weber Q and it's got so much extra versatility. (edited)

At £350 this is a no brainer. I got this a few weeks ago, and while I've only done some standard BBQ'ing so far, burgers, kebabs, sausages, it was so easy to get going and up to temp, nothing like previous BBQs I've owned, and a great flavor too. And the versatility potential of this is amazing, being able to essentially bake, roast, pretty much the works...with the right skill level of course.

Someone commented on the heat control and that the daisy wheel moves when the lid gets lifted, I would agree with that, so you need to remember to reset otherwise temp will drift off. There is a screw on it, I'm unsure if it needs a tighten or not to resolve this problem, but definitely something you need to be mindful of, especially if you're planning a low and slow or something.

I also recommend getting the charcoal basket, you can just shake off the ash from remaining charcoal easily (when it's cooled of course), allowing you to keep it for the next cook. Without it that would be an absolute pain.

Only other consideration is height, I've nothing to elevate this up on at the moment, so you have to squat down to avoid sticking your head right into the smoke. I will get a table for it eventually, in fact if anyone can recommend a good one that would be great!

I got a used one. How much can I get for it? Thanks

That's a difficult question to answer. The main selling point of the Kamado Joe's is the lifetime warranty on the ceramic. This is only valid for the original purchaser though and not transferable. So if you can buy brand new for £350 with a lifetime warranty you'd expect a used one without the warranty to go for £200. With that being said there are many idiots in this world and you'd likely be able to sell a used one on eBay for £400. (edited)

Great item! Got the classic 3 and this baby kamado....

Honest opinion, I find this small version harder to temp control vs the bigger ones. You open the lid to check the cook and the daisy wheel moves, been caught out a few times. I now use mine mainly for steaks, hot and fast searing, brilliant. The deflector plate works as it should, great build quality overall.

It's supposed to be portable, and it is if you're a body builder, these things are still very heavy!

    Cracking price though.

£350? Probably only enough room to cook two sausages at once.
So many better choices than this especially at that price.

Highly recommend this. Its day and night difference from the aldi /lidl mini versions. This could genuinely cook for a family of 4 no problem and manages heat alot better for slow cooks etc. Also I would recommend the kick ash basket it's a great accessory for this. (edited)

Which kick ash basket do you recommend?

Anyone know somewhere that would price match? Not a member of Costco and they don’t deliver to Northern Ireland. Thanks

Love mine. Is a side kick to its big bro, but can manage an impressive amount of grub

Had mine for 3 years now. Can easily fit 4 chickens on there, which smoke to perfection in around 1 hour. Best value for money kamado IMO

4 whole chickens? On the 37cm grill?
  20. lordfakeclothes's avatar
Could this do a 5-6kg brisket? Or is it too small?

A whole packer no, as it would be too long. You could get a good sized flat or point on there though

Hi all, for those who own one- does this include a heat deflector?

    It does

pretty tempted now to pull the trigger but am away on holiday next week - from memory when buying my TV 2 years ago it took a while dispatch and then get a call from the delivery company to arrange a nominated delivery day.

Has anyone had any big pallet like deliveries from Costco recently and can confirm the process and timescales?

A mate of mine ordered and said that Costco are using Kinetic Logistics for delivery. I guess you could order and contact them to delay. It would need to be signed for and I doubt it would be left on your doorstep
