For anyone wondering, we've had one of these for 5 or 6 years now. So far so good, no leaks, no tears, etc. Been all over Scotland with it, big lochs and small, rough and calm waters. Bad weather and good.

It is really stable and you would struggle to capsize it (we tried), or come out of it by accident. The sides are substantial and you will find that a longer paddle is better for that reason, but this is also what gives it its stability. Read the reviews on the Decathlon site, there is lots of information there about it.

We usually use it with two ~80kg adults and a 10kg dog. There is lots of room for two adults and a dog and bits and pieces, rucksacks, etc. We have also had an extra adult, approx 65kg with us, but I would say this was a squeeze and made the kayak heavier to handle (two people paddling).

Otherwise, it is very manoeuvrable, very stable and lots of fun. Not just for paddling about either, we've probably paddled well over 15km out on a loch on a single day. We can spend whole days out on it, sunbathing, relaxing, exploring, eating, etc etc, and been out probably >25 times now; no repairs as yet.

Other info: Takes about 10-15 minutes to set up from scratch using manual pump. There's a little USB rechargeable electric pump you can buy off eBay/Amazon which was £16 when I bought it. This holds enough charge to blow it up once, then top off to correct pressure manually. Better than the ridiculously priced electric Decathlon option. We regularly 'beach' it when bringing it in, no problems with tears. We are always careful not to over-pressurise it. Needs a quick check before using it on a second day just to top up air. Have never needed to top up over just one day, no matter how many hours' use. We bought 215cm oars first because that was all Decathlon had in the shop, but have since bought the more expensive adjustable 230?cm ones - longer is better. You can get drip guards - little rubber things that go around the ends of the paddle, only about a fiver and stop a lot of back splash if you are planning some serious paddling. We found dry bags unnecessary. You can tuck a rucksack in at the back of the boat where it stays dry

I don't know, give it a try. We got hooked and have had endless hours of fun.

Final word: GET LIFE JACKETS! I don't hesitate to recommend this kayak, but don't take any chances. And another little gem: the weather can change within minutes, literally, on any loch.

For the person who asked about the sea, the closest we've been to that is paddling out around Isle Martin (Ullapool). Kayak handled it perfectly well, but it was an eye-opener for me feeling the swell of the current beneath the boat as we turned towards shore. It makes you realise just how powerful oceans must be. Otherwise, we've been out on Loch Awe, Lubnaig, Tay and many others. Plenty of currents, waves, and hard paddling in one direction, but nothing has felt quite like that 'ocean swell'. I don't think this kayak would 'cut' through the wind and water the way a traditional low profile plastic canoe might if that is necessary for sea kayaking. Its comparatively high sides make it far less aerodynamic, but again, that is what gives it its stability. Handling vs safety and comfort. So I don't know if it is good for the sea, I only know it has been good for us even on some stormy lochs. And even better for lazy days in the sunshine.

Great review 🙏 did u get oars from decathlon as well? Thanks

A bit of advice: if you ever use it in the sea, rinse off all the zips with fresh water before storing it. Every zip on mine is corroded closed, so if there is a repair needed it'll not be possible.

For anyone wondering, these are pretty much the best things on the market. The fact that they are constructed with inflatable innards inside a separate thick nylon outer shell makes them SO hard wearing and night and day better than other single layer inflatables. You simply will not get better, especially at this price point (edited)
  4. Damo2345's avatar
Is this much/any better than intex explorer/challenger?
    Bennyboy45's avatar
Yeah much better. Much more durable and much better movement. I have both
  5. SkipFeeney's avatar
Do you think you could squeeze 4 on here if under the weight limit? So 1 adult 3 kids, one of the kids can sit in-between my knees (4 year old)
    mcguire85's avatar
No even 3 is a push
  6. sirmusclealot's avatar
I got one of these too, had it about 4 years now. It's okay but not very good for the sea as it doesn't cut through the water well. Also its heavy, especially once you factor the oars and pump. Mines been in the attic for 2 years now as I got a SUP with a seat, which is much lighter and easier to take around solo.
    jim1949's avatar
Would you recommend any particular SUP?
  7. nadz2's avatar
Is it good for sea please?

In spain one year me and my mate took an itiwit out and went to africa (edited)
  8. lukeo44's avatar
bargain, had one of these for a couple of seasons and it’s been great
  9. Robbo11's avatar
A few more tips. Never paddle further out than you can safely swim back to shore. Budget for a decent PFD jacket with crotch straps, a paddle leash and a waterproof phone pouch case. They can all be life savers. (edited)
    Zosia's avatar
I use old tent guy rope as paddle leash.
  10. cosmichamster's avatar
Great starter kayak, would definitely recommend over the likes of the Intex deals that pop up. Bear in mind need to buy paddle/pump separately
    Gog's avatar
I recommend getting a long paddle for more comfortable paddling. (edited)

How easy is it to inflate one of these from a car at the beach. Or at a lake with no electricity to pump it up?
    Atomm's avatar
Cheap 12v car lighter inflator, about £10/15 will only inflate it so much, take the grunt work out, but a decent 2 way pump is required to get it to the required 1.5psi- a pressure gauge will come with the kayak.

How easy? It'll take a bit of effort- probably 2/3 minutes of continuous effort for each side rib.
  12. blizeH's avatar
Just looking and there seems to he a huge jump in price for 4 person kayaks? We have two children and it’d be nice to go out the four of us, but I’m wondering if starting with one of these and going out just the 2 or 3 of us is the best option to start with (have never kayaked before other than organised things on holiday)
    saxo_appeal's avatar
You would be far better buying 2 x 2 person Kayak, you can always paddle together, which we were thinking of doing.

Also if anything happens and one flips over, at least yourself (& one child) can paddle quicker to shore for help if needed, or help get them back into theirs

I'm just thinking of diffeent scenarios, probably extreme but always plan for the worst, esp on deep water (edited)
  13. saxo_appeal's avatar
Out of curiosity, do these have an ankle leash to the Kayak?

In case of falling out and it being drifted away quicker you can swim to it, much like a surfer board? (edited)
    sirmusclealot's avatar
No. But your unlikely to fall out as it's very steady. I wouldn't take this on the sea, I did once on a calm day and it's hard work. These don't have a proper skeg so it doesn't cut through the water like a solid kayak. It's okay for rivers though. (edited)
  14. Robbo11's avatar
If you buy an electric pump, it's well worth getting a duel stage pump. They are quite noisy when the second stage pumping starts but they are really quick and will inflate a fairly low pressure kayak like the one in this deal well within 10 minutes.

Whether you get an electric or manual pump, getting one with a deflate option is worthwhile too. Even after letting the air out by opening the valves, there will still be air left inside the deflated kayak. Sucking all the air out of the kayak using a pump's deflate connection, makes it so much easier to fold and fit back in the bag. (edited)

Glanced at deal title quickly and thought Apple were more honest with their marketing...
  16. stinkyknuks's avatar
I have the size down from this, not the fastest but really stable and loads of room for kit. Just get some dry bags and can fit a tent n kit for some over night stays.
  17. Laffertonk's avatar
Great deal. Got 2 already so no need for another but well worth the money
  18. Gareth_Collins's avatar
How far do they deliver…..is it only within the 🇬🇧 UK…..(confused) (edited)
  19. Zosia's avatar
And as usual, single is more expensive.
  20. DawnxWall's avatar
    No dropstitch floor? Not worth
    muon's avatar
£250 more for that though, not sure it's worth the extra
  21. OB1's avatar
I see they do a four seat version, although out of stock. Anyone have experience with that one?
  22. RBOB's avatar
Ordered with the wide padel and life vests. Looking froward to trying this out!
  23. kevyn's avatar
I appreciate this kayak is a better quality/build I'm sure, however how does it compare to something like this, which includes 3 paddles and a pump for £190:

Tahiti Plus 3 person Inflatable kayak kit with 3 Paddles and Pump - Blue / Red

For info, this would be very occasional usage with 1 adult, 2 kids not paddling very far - so don't necessarily need top quality
    Zosia's avatar
I know someone who took Sevylor Tahiti to Palau and did some ocean kayaking there. So it can't be bad for occasional local use with kids. I think, you can probably get it cheaper, if you look for a bit.
  24. aemscor's avatar
Why not buying from lidl. It’s good
    countryboy1's avatar
Lidl kayaks are basically lilos with sides, can’t steer them and get blown across the surface. The decathlon kayak has skegs, more sturdy and will last longer.
  25. AncientYouth's avatar
Can you fit an outboard engine ?
    Atomm's avatar
    Sure. Perfect for fishing too.

If I leave the house to my wife and disappear on a canoeing trip, does she avoid inheritance tax?
  27. Woodwose's avatar
Bought. Thanks op. Love messing about on the river!
  28. Andy_Jeong's avatar
Do I need licence for this? For instance, floating it onto Thames river.
  29. Twinkle0007's avatar
Could we get 2 adults and 2 small children (7&9) in one of these? Could buy 2 x two person ones but they’re more expensive I think
  30. deleted48909's avatar
Should I but this over and above an Intex?

I'm only after a kayak for myself. There are a few vids on Youtube which say it's fine for one person though.
  31. capa's avatar
I’m sure so watched some reviews that said the Itiwit was better.

this deal has expired btw. At least at £199. Back up to £249.99
  32. crazygoldfish's avatar
I got this kayak and have to say it’s great.

had a fun day with the kids.

    felt solid.

I saw another family out on another inflatable.

looked like they were sinking !
  33. capa's avatar
This is back at £199.99 for those interested
  34. jasondluk1's avatar
Would this be good for use on the sea or are there better 1 or 2 person kayaks for that ?
    kenneth.macleod's avatar
I use mine on the sea regularly.
  35. kevyn's avatar
This was already posted fyi, more info in those comments
    brooker89's avatar
As far as I can see. It was posted 2 months ago at a more expensive price

Keen to replacement my £69.99 P-Pure Kayak I picked up from the Range but tempted to go for one of the drop stitch X100's from decathlon for that extra speed, durability etc etc.

That extra hundred though has me going round in circles.

    Thanks for the reminder.
    Findingdory's avatar
Extra hundred is worth it! So much easier and quicker to dry makes it worth it alone!
  37. capa's avatar
I’ve just picked up the regular 100 from second life in blue (the newer one) for £230. I may take it back though. The drying situation appeals.
  38. flutterb's avatar
Can anyone recommend an electric pump for this? (edited)
    crazygoldfish's avatar
Intex Double Quick II Hand Pump... amazon.co.uk/dp/…are

I’ve tried a few electric ones and they are very slow.

I use this one and can have it ready in under 10mins.
