I've been using the Magene H64 (£20 on the big-bad-A-company website) for a few months now.

It works just as well as the several Garmin HRM straps that I've had and within a few BPM when you compare the numbers.

If you're after a basic HR strap, then I'd recommend the Magene over the Garmin (I've not voted either way!)
(N.B. If you're not in a hurry and don't mind ordering from China, you can get the H64 for around £13-15)

[ For reference, I cycle around 10'000 Km per year and Run around 2000 Km per year, all whilst wearing HR straps from Garmin / Magene / Decathlon / Wahoo ] (edited)

    Have the wahoo and Magene..
Tried them both simultaneously for comparison for a few weeks...
    No difference really...

Is this better than a watch?

Depends on the exercise/wrist position, I found that Garmin wrist based HRMs work well during runs, but poor compared to straps when cycling and doing HITT workouts, I now just use a strap when possible

This model broke for me after a year of use (3x30 min a week) so replaced with the polar H10 which has been far more reliable at picking up the signal. I’d recommend that one over this

Yes, mine broke as well. Actually, two of them.returned the second one and bought a polar h10

Tempting. Always used Garmin HRM’s but switched to Wahoo due to the cost but it’s been crap.

One of the 2 models stated as definitely compatible with the quest 2 as well for vr fitness. (edited)

used a magene one for a couple of years and it was pretty good, but more and more started to intermittently loose the pulse. By chance I had a £20 halfords vouchers, so picked up this
    halfords.com/cyc…tml
using it for past month and its hardly missed a beat ( no pun intended ). Ranging from zone 2 walking up to HIIT at zone 5. Checked its accuracy with my cross trainer HR hand contacts reader, and its exactly the same, the Halfords picks up HR changes quicker though.
Whichever you choose, I find a thin smear of medical gel on the two sensor pads on the band ensures good electrical contact.

I'm not familiar with the Magene but did you try changing the battery when it started dropping out? I have the old Garmin HRM1G and it also suffers after about 2 years (despite still showing up on cycle computer and phone). New battery cures it.

I found these to be excellent. Used my first one five times a week for a few years - lost it so had to get a second. Wouldn’t consider any other. I paid more than this for each so this is a good price.

Used this with 2 cycle computers and a peloton bike. Connects no problem everytime and never had an issue with false readings. Would recommend.

I have the old cheap Garmin HRM1G. Is this much of an upgrade (in terms of accuracy, comfort, not needing to totally wet it to improve conductivity to chest etc) please?

I can't find any comparisons with Google.

Basically I'm wondering if this is just an old hrm1g that they added BLE to 😄 (edited)

Which Android app do people recommend for tracking this please? I use a Lezyne bike computer but also want to track in an app.

myWorkouts by wellcrafted is excellent and free and ad free. Been using it for couple of years and its been bomb proof. Even has GPS map tracking. Does not seem to be any new versions, so maybe not being developed further? But tbh, if you find it lacking anything..youre looking a gift horse in the mouth!
