Vivoactive 3 is at the same price on Amazon Truck almost on my doorstep. Decisions...

Was the same in my store. Make sure you ask for the special edition with the two straps and tell them it's £159.99 online and probably they will do it at that price. The non special edition is over £200 in store.

It supports various 'IQ' add-ons (many/most are free), and I think 'virtual pacer' is required (free) for this function. I haven't used it as I tend to just look at the watch which displays current pace anyway (if you want it to). Virtual pacer seems to allow you to set a pace and then tells you if you're ahead or behind. Hope that helps! :)

I brought one from Argos for £99.09. Great unit, incredibly detailed maps. Much preferred to a phone.

Get a dashboard mount. Do not place it on the windscreen if it is in the sweep of the windscreen wipers as it is an MOT failure and as such you could be fined if the DVSA (formally VOSA) pull you. On a separate note it is a good sat nav. Far more reliable than mobile phones for connection purposes and the extra features on it too. I used to use my phones all the time but wouldn't go back now and find a separate system better than the built I ones most cars have these days too.

Op you forgot to put has free lifetime map updates as well. Can only see free live traffic updates.

I think if you are sensible & place it the corner or lower down of the windscreen you should be ok. The amount of people I see where the sat Nov is plonked in the middle of the screen somewhere is unbelievable & stupid & well worth a fine from the copshop.

Outdated now but good for those who are not able to use their phones.

:/ :/ :/ You are wrong once again you didn't mention the Edge 1030 in your first comment. (You're not very good at this, are you?? LOL). What you said in your first comment was: Let's try once again... 1. Wiggle did not reduce ALL their Garmin products by 1%, in fact they didn't even reduce a single one by 1% (the Edge 1030 has been at this price for ages and the loyalty discount is not applied for the reason I explained to you previously). 2. The loyalty discount applies to discounted items as well as full priced items, even though you clearly implied the opposite and claimed Wiggle was sneaky. If you still don't understand why you are wrong, feel free to keep embarrassing yourself. Actually, I am looking forward to see what you'll come up with next, it's quite entertaining... (y) (y)

So in summary....I’m right and you were wrong. They have broken their own terms and conditions on the garmin 1030. The product I discussed in my first comment that you labelled as wrong, you are now admitting is correct Thanks for coming clean

Again, it's wrong for all the products (including Garmin ones) except from the Garmin Edge 1030. Have you tried any other Garmin products? For me it works fine on all the other Garmin products I tried. Try the 735 XT for example, which originally has 6% discount. When you add it to the basket, you get the full loyalty discount (12% platinum). According to what you said, that shouldn't be the case. You also said they reduced all their Garmin products by 1%. Again this is not the case, if you look at all the Garmin products. This has to do with the fact that the Edge 1030 is quite new to the market and Garmin doesn't allow retailers to reduce it significantly for the first few months.

I only said garmin products. So it’s not wrong. It doesn’t work on garmin. See screenshot attached

This watch is on for 446.28 EUR + 5.70 EUR. Which would come to approximately 390.00 GBP. (Assuming you have a Halifax Clarity card or something similar) Not a bad price for the black! The watch will be identical to UK version. Hope this helps someone.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide such thorough answers ... very helpful!

Wouldn't the endless beeping be annoying on busy urban roads? - Yes and I wouldn't use it for that, I try to avoid cycling on busy roads as much as possible regardless of this device. What speed does it consider dangerous as in a different sounding beep? - There's no different sounding beeps, it produces the same beep for any vehicle which enters the radar range (around 150m). The display then changes to show a dot on the right hand which moves towards the top of the display (which is your position) to give you an idea how fast the vehicle is closing, if there's multiple vehicles then it will show multiple dots then when all have passed, it will flash green. What noises happen when being tailed by a car at a steady 25mph? - If a vehicle enters range at a higher speed then slows down to your speed, it will disappear off the display until it speeds up again. This can be tricky because if the car turns off, it will also drop off the display so if a vehicle comes into range then disappears, I quickly check over my shoulder to see if it's still there or not. Can you hear the beeps well on windy days or when descending at say 35mph? - I've had no problems consistently hearing the beep despite the large amount of wind noise on the road bike, on the Edge 520 (I haven't used it with other units) the display flashes red as well as beeping when the vehicle comes into range which is noticeable as well. And can it really tell when a second car is closely following a first car given the first mostly shields the second? - It's remarkably good at this and seems to be able to identify three or four vehicles in range despite them being in a line and mostly covering each other. It sometimes doesn't quite get the exact number of vehicles right so it may show three approaching when there's actually four but the display updates as the first car moves by so it still accurately shows you when all the vehicles are past. If you're wanting to get away from technology then this probably isn't for you, for me (and other owners on this thread) it's a very beneficial device and I find it makes rides more relaxing. I usually cycle on cycle routes which are quieter back roads with occasional cars, I can go for hours without seeing a car but I still need to be aware of any cars coming. With this system I still check over my shoulder particularly on more open sections where visibility is good but I find given it's generally reliable, I don't need to frantically check over my shoulder all the time and focus more on the road surface and avoiding defects. DCR has a detailed review including video here:

For busy urban riding ... Wouldn't the endless beeping be annoying on busy urban roads? What speed does it consider dangerous as in a different sounding beep? What noises happen when being tailed by a car at a steady 25mph? Can you hear the beeps well on windy days or when descending at say 35mph? And can it really tell when a second car is closely following a first car given the first mostly shields the second? Thanks ... (I ride for the sense of freedom and to get away from technology, so weaponising my ride has to be worthwhile)

The device shows vehicles that are approaching at a higher speed than you are currently doing, it doesn't show vehicles which are doing the same speed. That means it will work when you're amongst a group of cyclists even when you're not at the back as it ignores the cyclists behind you since they're doing the same speed but can still pick up vehicles approaching. That said I don't find it much use when in a group and don't tend to use it for that as there's a lot more presence on the road and cars usually have to give you space.

Nope - you don't have to be at the back, but the more riders are behind you, the more chances that the radar will miss an approaching car. I live in rural somerset - so plenty of unclassified and minor roads rather than A roads with 60mph+ cars approaching from behind. It works very well in those situations.

I’ve now got a garmin vivoactive HR from an amazon warehouse deal, happy with the watch. i also had a amazfit bip for a short while, which for the price it was brilliant, however it did not work with runkeeper which all my runs for the last few years were recorded. if you just want a cheaper gps/fitness watch then check out the amazfit bip, it imports into strava and has brilliant battery life, it does however take a few weeks to get delivery from China

Thanks. I think I'll take your advice.

I had a tom tom for about 3 months, in that time it needed to be reset 3 times and then just died and would not recover, garmin’s just work. youll be buying a garmin in a few months

How accurate is the heart rate monitor?

It tracks sleep levels and movement. No idea how accurate it is (as I’m asleep, lol). It integrates wit Garmin Connect which in turn can integrate with other applications, such as Strava and Myfitnesspal. It’s not a function of the watch itself, but Garmin Connect. I don’t think it can integrate with Fitbit.

Quick report after 3 weeks of ownership - couldn’t be happier with them. Much quicker, more reliable and more data than the Fitbit scales. Easier to set up and never drop connection or lose data. Spot on. Also loving all the extra data in Garmin Connect and the Garmin app. People who voted this cold are mad. These never seem to drop in price like this. And unlike the Fitbit ones there are hardly any second hand ones about because they’re good.

Mine turned up today and I love it. A lot quicker and easier to set up than the Fitbit scales. Seems more accurate too. And of course provides more data as Garmin often does. Another smart feature is that when I weighed myself and then synced my watch, my watch knew my weight. Means more accurate stats for fitness tracking. Thanks again OP.

Heat added. Cannot believe people have voted cold on this. I’ve yet to see these drop below £100, even on eBay. They’ve held their price for a long time. I have the Fitbit scales but I moved over from Fitbit to Garmin a couple of years back as did my partner. It’s a pain having everything synced via the app / website except our weight / body metrics. You’re never going to find perfect body metrics at home unless you’re willing to buy proper pro kit, but as a guide to how you’re doing these are spot on. They show when you’re making good progress / gains and if you need to make changes to your current routine. As a Fenix 5X owner, cadence sensor, speed sensor and footpod owner these are spot on for me. But I fit the Garmin user profile. I guess if you own Fitbit or similar they’re not much use.

Negatively, if I'm on a market after Hue ones and they are on a good price. :) (even if Xiaomi or Trafidri are cheaper)

Yes Nokia ones, more features too.

Great price - actually got mine cheaper when they first came out due to a price glitch (£124.99!). Still wear it and it's going strong. Lots of good Connect IQ apps to add navigation and things. Battery life not amazing now it's getting on in age, but with most things disabled (bluetooth, IQ apps) it will hopefully last a marathon. Newer watches don't add much unless you're into triathlons.

Thanks just ordered for my Mrs (last red one). She's been after one of these for a while. I know it's an older model but still really good.

Can totally vouch for this watch. Had one of these for the best part of 3 years. My Mrs has worn it for the past year- upgraded to a Fenix 3 then a Fenix 5. Point is this watch is still more accurate than my £400+ Fenix 5 and the F3. Defo a more than adequate GPS watch but if you swim or need Tri settings you need the 735 or the Fenix. Very good watch.

Been waiting for price to come down for ages. It was £165 for a day last year and I was tempted but didn't buy, and with it being an oldish model I couldn't bring myself to pay more since. Whilst 245 is undoubtedly coming, 235 does what I need and I'd rather get on the cheap than pay more for a new model ;) . Hence bought as soon as my alert went off this morning!

Yeah there is a vibration alert as well. I have this exact model and use that function all the time

Not really. You can get fitness watches with gps and hr for £100-£150.

Band 2 Pro is brilliant value! Have been using one since since Christmas and I cannot find fault for the money. If I were to nitpick then the strap isnt great and when the GPS is on gets throug battery quicker. It doesn't have loads of features but what it does do it does incredibly well. Waterproof, GPS, advanced sleep tracking and also calculates VO2 max. The app is really good although not as slick as Fitbit but thats what you pay more money for. Band 2 Pro is probably unrivalled for the money at the moment.

show me a fitness tracker with 1 year battery which you can just wear and forget with better value

Yeah prob is but Fitbit replace straps very quickly. However, not suitable for swimming!

Be warned their customer service is awful if you ever have a problem, and they are having major problems with their devices connecting to bluetooth
