Had one of these watches when they were released and it was awful for losing its connection to the phone. Had to keep reinstalling the app on my phone to have it re-connect. Lots of other folks on the Garmin website had the same problem.

vinnyV2591

This was made by Garmin for exactly that purpose !! You wouldn’t want to visit any embassy around the World without one..... Probably worth picking up 2. One for each wrist!!

restyler

Is this one any good for visits to Embassies? Need one that monitors Heart rate, High Voltage probes & Baseball Bat strokes

Curlyman83

Agreed. I had the original vivoactive...lasted three years and was a brilliant watch. I’m gonna get version 3...just waiting for it to drop a little lower

vinnyV2591

I was lucky enough to pick one up. It turned out to have a minor fault but they exchanged it for a brand new one. Great watches but at this price I would be looking at the newer Vivoactive 3 which my wife has.

Not one for everyone, but if you have a compatible Garmin cycling computer (or for some reason the dedicated head unit on its own) it tells you if a car is approaching from behind … Read more
fergee

I don’t think it has been mentioned but not only does it warn the rider it increases in light intensity as the car approaches. Therefore saving battery when no one is behind you and becoming really bright and flashing hard when needed. They are a brilliant light and a very clever idea, superb if you have already bought into Garmin. You get what you pay for I’m afraid and at this price it is very good

kinell

Apparently ;) not with some Lippy on !

Johnmcl7

I bought one of these at the full price of £140 when it came out and never regretted it, I bought a second one for £80 in case anything happened to my first one as I wouldn't ride the road bike without it. When riding on the road bike at speed it's difficult to hear vehicles due to the noise of the air rushing past which means you need to constantly look which can be dangerous in itself as it's easy for a defect on the road to catch out the narrow tyres. You don't even need to be looking at this device as it beeps to warn you a car has come into range (up to 150m behind) then a quick glance down and you can see how many cars are coming and also how fast they're coming as well. Since it only tracks vehicles that are approaching you it works fine when in a cycle group with bikes behind you as they are ignored although you need to be careful with cars that approach then slow down to your speed as they'll disappear off the display which can catch you out when they move to overtake. If the car instead turns off it won't show on the display either so you need to keep an eye on the car in that case. In the previous thread someone asked about the usefulness on busy roads and it's not, aside from it beeping all the time as all the cars come past you don't really need to be warned of cars when they're constantly coming past. I find it useful on quiet country back roads which is where I primarily cycle on the road anyway where you may not see a car for ages and at times there are some drivers absolutely hammering it, if I see car coming up fast I'll move over as much as possible as I find some of those drivers don't give much space.

iMechanic

I have one on my helmet- like a rear view mirror in a car- about a tenner. The advantage is that my eyes are front and on the road (instead of looking down) but I can still see cars coming up from behind. With a slight turn of the head I can see rear traffic from the L and R also. Only disadvantage is it looking a bit dorky. Haha

jasee

If it wasn't for the laws against drone flying, I can see this coming!

Great deal for a watch that came out today. Its feature set appears to be somewhere between the Vivoactive 3 and Fenix 5.

I might have just been lucky then,I didn’t show them the code I used and they didn’t check.

My pricematch request was turned down because the price was achieved by using a code.

I have Garmin fenix 5 from 10 months. Fantastic watch. But thinking to change for Garmin Instinct. I do not know is good idea or not ?

frakker

Yep. I emailed them about it this morning and they said they'd match the deal. Need to buy it from them at full price and they'll refund the difference afterwards.

ElBuc

My Forerunner 610 screen is worse than it is ugly, the flimsy plastic surface of the barely touch sensitive screen is so easily damaged and there is no repair - a tiny crack on mine had to be halted and covered with a blob of Araldite. There was no screen protector available. Daily wear was just asking for it!

andrewp

Agree with this. The £5 kimlar screen protectors are very good. Better than paying an extra £100 for sapphire imo

gaz84

Great price! I have a 645 and the only thing on these I worry about is the brushed metal around the edge. Gets scratched super easy! I do wear mine everyday mind you with a 1yo about.

Any excuse not to be on baby duty and a good film on the screen to keep me distracted!

Hiyayou

Lol.... Running 25k scares me, that's over 2hrs for a keen runner, what do you use as a carrot, running toward or away from the Mrs (no offence meant) Hahaha.

marksmithy2002

Close but not there yet I don't think. Give it 2 years and they'll be there i think. This might not be a smart watch as such but it surprises me every time I do something new. The first time I used it on a Tremill and it knew I ran 25k it scared me XD

Hiyayou

I totally agree that is a fantastic watch, i have the fenix 3....all I would say I am at a point where I might look at the Samsung gear (have Android watch). IMO the true smart watches are catching up to the dedicated triathlete gadgets. The Apple watch is also up there. Just have a think before making the purchase.

marksmithy2002

Decent enough price but not voting hot or cold. The watch on the other hand is epic! I love mine and if anyone is on the fence about getting one ... do it :)

Garmin are amazing on warranty even after the year... Have sent me a recon 810 and 820 when I had no right to really get one... I am a long term loyal customer mind.. Always worth an email

NEEZERNEE

I’ve had one of these for over 2 years and wore it everyday and I loved it, i used it initially for running and walking and also for golf. From a golf point of view not as in depth as the specialist watches, but for me (I play at least once a week) it’s everything I need. It was waterproof but due to it getting banged around while wearing it for work, it went kaput in a swimming pool a couple of weeks back, water got in through the screen. I’m gutted. However I’ll think I’ll upgrade to the Vivoactive 3 as aesthetically it’s much better looking.

stapsell

I am a big fan of the amazfit pace GPS watch, which can be around $100 from aliexpress, with bluetooth MP3 playback. The built in heart rate data is poor for running, but I have a bluetooth ANT+ (bluetooth) chest strap for £16 which seems perfect and helpful for "heart rate zone" training. It also is an excellent watch for phone notifications and silent (vibrating) alarms. The battery is good for 36h of continuous GPS, or around 3-4 days of normal use. It is much worse when using bluetooth headphones for music or heart rate monitoring. (Perhaps 4-6h of GPS use). The online reviews dont take account of the significant improvements with firmware updates in the last 6 months...

How strange. I just had my replacement watch delivered today.

And This Years ""Most Stupid"" Award go's To........

Norseg

I never said a iPhone I said a cheap phone

Fatal.Swan

Look - I'll guess you're not a cyclist. Having failed with the argument about why an iphone is better than a car sat nav - in that it's completely irrelevant to this product - why bother continuing with it? To politely answer your questions.... Why? Well, cycling is a pastime, a sport, a hobby. Who would cycle for more than 4 hours? Well, cyclists cycle for more than 4 hours - not all of them, but plenty. Where do they go? All over the place - keep your eyes out for them. How far you can get in that time? It depends what sort of rider you are and what sort of riding you do - maybe 40 miles, maybe 80. None of which is remotely relevant to this deal.

Norseg

Why? where do you go? I don't see much reason in someone cycling 4hours everyday How many miles is that?

LuckyDavid

Lol! I’m not sure I tend to ride less than 4 to be honest.

You calibrate it before you start an activity... it's consistent relative to the start elevation.

ro53ben

I know how it works, it doesn't change the fact that it's wrong. If you're at sea level and it thinks you're halfway up a hill, what's the point?

plewis00

Yes, I do wear a chest strap that’s why I recommended two watches that don’t have HR built-in, the Fenix 3 and 920XT which are in the same price bracket but do have altimeters. Of course the altimeter changes elevation overnight, you probably need to understand how it works - it’s only properly functional when actually training, not just to glance at random times. It tracks changes in air pressure which is what happens when the weather changes...

ro53ben

Heart rate can easily be fixed with a chest strap if you care that much. The altimeter changes height overnight when sat motionless on a table. If i can't accurately tell me my height, no interest at all.

plewis00

Read DC Rainmaker’s review or any of the other big guys who use it first-hand. Less important for running but cycling much more so. They’re not inaccurate by any stretch. It’ll depend on what you want and expect to get out of it ultimately - but if I had to choose between an optical HR or an altimeter I’d choose the altimeter, optical HR has poor accuracy - e.g. I’d take an older Fenix 3 or 920XT before the 735.

Great Watch and very light compared to Fenix. Added heat.

mark.baker

Yeah is a great watch. My friend has it and I’m considering it but I have a 920xt so the upgrade to that is the 935. Very tempted though.

maltloaf_df

If I hadn’t got a fenix 5 s in a deal on here I’d be all over this. Great watch

oNOVAo

Had this watch for a while now I paid over £300 for it and was happy with it at that price.

plewis00

It’s a good watch but Tri bundle is a bit of a misnomer - the 735XT is missing a functional altimeter and most triathletes will want that feature. If you’re not into the whole multi-sport thing then a Vivoactive 3 will be almost as good, look better and cost less, or even a Fenix 3 as an alternative.

It was on ebay, us seller. There was 15% off code offer as far as I remember. And the seller was selling about 3000 of them in total so that's why price was decent, even with tax and ebay global shipping. It was sapphire hr with metal bracelet, I sold bracelet for 50 pounds, bought original silicon strap instead . Still works great.

Lord_British

If you have a Fenix 3 HR which is working properly , this means that you are not in a hurry to buy a new tri-watch. Since the Fenix 5 Plus is only few months old , the price of the Fenix 5 will drop further in the coming months. The price for Fenix 5 is 375 for last weeks at Millets which means that 349 is a deal but not a super deal... Then its up to you my friend...

My Fenix 3 Sapphire is scratched anyway so I have taken a punt on this. Voted hot.

I have got these and they are really accurate but the WiFi connection is terrible and the Garmin forums have been full of complaints for ages with nothing done about it. I couldn't get them to sync at all on my old bt smart hub so had to buy a cheap older style WiFi cable router to plug into it and run the scales from there. It now syncs most of the time for me but not for my wife for some reason. They are working better since we switched to now TV broadband. It does look like Garmin might be finally about to try and fix the problems as they are finally responding on the forums about the issues and gathering info. Fingers crossed.

Yes these are replaceable. I have had mine a year and still haven't needed to replace it. I'm not sure if Argos are correct on battery life as I thought they lasted upo 3 years. There are screws on the back that give you access to the battery, it's like a watch battery. I love mine so much, as I use it as a watch too. It doesn't look like the watch is rechargeable as it doesn't have USB. Edit: I found out that it takes two cell batteries. I wish similar devices would have these instead of the rechargeable ones
