Actually, the battery life is worse on the 5 plus and the Galileo GPS is now available on 5 through an update. Unless you bank with Santander, Garmin Pay is pretty much useless. In reality, the only significant improvements are the maps and the music.

Josh.Rogan

No, there are loads of differences: Ability to load maps, ability to store music, Galileo GPS, better battery life, Garmin pay... https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dcrainmaker.com/2018/06/garmin-fenix5-plus-5s-5x-in-depth-review.html/amp

I loved my sw3 too until the built in GPS stopped working

PaulG1970

I have had a Sony sw3 for the last couple of years.

PaulG1970

Treadmill and elliptical. I had a Fitbit a couple of years ago linked to myfitnesspal which worked really well. I also like the notifications and call features. Looking like a watch is a bonus.

SpamJavelin

If you don't want GPS I wouldn't bother with a watch at all. What are you using it for, treadmill?

I'd go along with that, definitely for running anyway. I have read that it's more dependable when cycling, which could be to do with less wrist movement.

PaulCoops

It's about position of the watch while exercising. It has to be fairly tight but not to tight. I find mine to match what the machine im using tells me through hand held hr monitors.

Who says? I got it when purchased this yesterday. Don't forget topcashback too. I read somewhere that 820 is more capable around routes planning than 520. Unlike 520, it can also have additional maps added... At this price - it seemed more of worth than 520. Also that - it features colour maps - that I would prefer more than Wahoo. So the choice.

tardigradus

It is this app. Looks like it's no longer available on Google store for new users, However I still have it in my library and can install. Strange... Found this download from apkmonk.com, no idea if it's safe: https://www.apkmonk.com/app/com.ci.crank/

dunkiep

That link doesn't work. Is there an archived download somewhere?

eightace

Not on sale items though

Scott_Hodson

I have The 520plus and its a much better bit of kit than the 820 which any Bit of rain or sweat causes the screen to change and is hard to use in spring and autumn when using fingered gloves. The mapping is really glitchy too compares to my 520 plus. A friend of mine has a Wahoo bolt and thats been an excellent bit of kit too. I just stuck with garmin as my watch is garmin too so it all runs through garmin connect/training peaks.

Thanks for the update (y)

bluntmachetti

Garmin has just released the Marq series which technically isn't a new model, just a premium version of the existing Fenix 5 series with slight upgrades (akin to a Fenix 5.5 to be honest). I suspect an e-Sim version shouldn't be long coming, though i don't personally use any of those features. Having notifications come to my wrist is slightly annoying and i typically turn all notifications off.

neil.solender

Good price although I suspect it won't before garmin release new models. Great watch though. I'd like something I could put a simm card in and have some sort of power meter in like the polar. Hot deal though

bluntmachetti

I don't see your point ? It says refurb in the title, and the description also infers as much. I was just stating the condition mine came in.

Pyongyang

It's refurbished? "The unit is a Garmin Newly Overhauled device, guaranteed to be in as new condition, which comes in original plain white Garmin retail packaging complete with a full 12 Month Garmin Manufacturers Warranty" The box is not plain white. It's a refurb.

Think you were wise to cancel. The seller has only one review in the last 12 months and it was negative. They have a raft of too cheap Garmin watches for sale on Amazon France. Could be that a legitimate seller's account has been hacked.

RustyBeard

If it does turn out to be dodgy, would Amazon not refund you? I suppose the risk is getting a APAC version instead of ROW and then having the hassle of returning it. It is a crazy price and I bought the 5x plus but then I started doubting the decision and cancelled it..

RustyBeard

Its not the same product. This is the sapphire version.

I stand corrected; I'll have to make sure I select 'Run indoors' next time I'm in the gym! Thanks (y) runreporter.com/running-gear-reviews/running-indoors-garmin-forerunner-235/ Just tested & a 10km treadmill run came out as 9.7km on the watch, so it can be used.

blake_7

Takes 5 mins to open a Starling account. I opened one specifically to use with my Vivoactive 3 and it works really well.

vclaw

It can give you speed/distance on a treadmill. This is just based on how much you are swinging your arms, and estimating the length of each step. So maybe not very accurate. Or you could buy a footpod that clips onto your shoe, maybe a bit more accurate.

Oops sorry you're right on vivoactive. The app is called "pool swim" on the Garmin connect store.

JellyFox1

Vivoactive 3 is £170 on Amazon and was £160 recently, the 735xt drops to around £190 - 200 on occasions. What's the app called? Not sure how well it will log the activity in comparison, however this is still a great watch for running/cycling and general day to day tracking.

MLD9

Thanks. They're both around £230 which is a bit more than I'm looking to spend. Done a bit of research and looks like a third party app from the Garmin store can use the sensors to track swimming relatively well.

I used mine for a year. It never missed a beat. Found GPS quickly, tracked my runs perfectly. As for size. I'm a guy with skinny arms & this wasn't overly huge. Admittedly it isn't as stylish as the Fitbit range, but I prefer function over style personally.
