It's extraordinary how this has been ignored by the press and not noticed by the public over the years with no substantial action taken against those responsibility for it.

I was one of those victims of what happened and I can tell you that what is being told is only partly true. Yes the accounting software was certainly badly written as all public sector software is, because public sector managers are all incompetent and incapable of decision making, so the requirements are constantly changed and no one wants to sign their name to anything.

Having said all that the situation came down to the evil Tony BLiar wanting to close the majority of the Post Office network and to pay as little compensation as he possibly could. The losses I believe were deliberately engineered so they could close an office without it costing them anything. How many of the offices where this happened to a postmaster stay open afterwards? Not many

This I suggest is why people like Paula Vennels have never been charged with anything nor lost her honours, it's because she faithfully carried out what the government required her to do and didn't lose much sleep over the consequences. The blaming of the Horizon system might have some validity, but it's in the main another cover up of what really happened.

All those poor people criminalised, locked up & accused just so the Post Office could hide the fact the Horizon system was OK. Why was no one from the Post Office Head Office ever charged. Paula Vennels ex Anglican priest number one to be imprisoned

    Agree entirely....
Unfortunately human nature seems to be so often cover ones a.. and look out for no. 1 first... People actually get confused when you don't...

All the people who knew and did nothing... Fujitsu as well...

And now the stalling to prevent compensation

I feel a bbc docuseries coming on.... (edited)

"Blaming everyone but themselves" Terrible then and even worse these days

The history of public sector ICT and outsourcing is littered with politically-inspired projects that failed.
I don't know why Fujitsu is always quoted when it was ICL making the mess.

I don't recommend anyone read this as I am only a little way through it and my blood is continually boiling. I'm not sure I will survive reading through to the end!
