All Certified Refurbished Steam Decks include:

  • The same one year warranty as a new Steam Deck (unless longer as determined by your country of residence)

  • A refurbished power supply - fully tested (may have minor cosmetic marks)

  • Carrying case and Quick Start guide

Each Certified Refurbished Steam Deck has been thoroughly tested to the same high standards as our retail units. Every device goes through a complete factory reset, software update, and an extensive examination involving over 100 tests at one of Valve's facilities. Among the tests are all controller inputs, the audio system, the screen, and internals. Battery health is also assessed to ensure proper functionality and longevity.

All refurbished units meet or even exceed the performance standards of new retail units. Although they may have minor cosmetic blemishes, they provide a reliable, high-quality gaming experience at a lower cost.

Portability meets power

We partnered with AMD to create Steam Deck's custom APU, optimized for handheld gaming. It is a Zen 2 + RDNA 2 powerhouse, delivering more than enough performance to run the latest AAA games in a very efficient power envelope.

Your Steam Library, anywhere

All models use socketed 2230 m.2 modules (not intended for end-user replacement)
All models include high-speed microSD card slot
*Some 256GB and 512GB models ship with a PCIe Gen 3 x2 SSD. In our testing, we did not see any impact to gaming performance between x2 and x4.

My collected links, from an earlier thread.
The Steam Deck is a 7-inch handheld that runs games from Steam (and other PC games), similar to a Nintendo Switch (review). Generally it requires internet access to download games at first, but those games are often playable offline.

Buy the 64GB version and 'for now' try it with a 256GB/512GB/1TB micro sd card (and upgrade the internal drive 'at some point').

Search Steam for games "Verified" or "Playable" on the Steam Deck or browse those "Great on Deck"
Check the compatibility of games in your library (in client, visit Steam Deck page, follow link titled "Check your library's compatibility").
ProtonDB lists games sorted by user score and those Verified for Steam Deck sorted by user score

Install EA Play / Epic Games and GOG (Heroic Launcher) / Itch.io launchers
Play emulated games on it (pcgamer.com/ste…on/ or EmuDeck)
Play Xbox Game Pass Cloud Gaming games (list) on it (saves battery vs running Windows), also Xbox Remote Play.
    Play PS5/PS4 games remotely
Add Chrome shortcuts for Disney Plus, Netflix, Spotify etc.

VibrantDeck (for brighter images, pretend you have OLED) with Decky Loader.
CryoUtilities 2.0 for better game performance

Battery life guides (turn down frame rate etc., e.g. optimise the demanding God of War from 1.5hr to 2.5hr. Less demanding 2D/strategy/streaming games last 5/6hrs. Buy a battery pack?

Great item and price, however when I saw one in the flesh the other week, it reminded me of the Sega Game Gear after spending years on my GameBoy

50752671-7wkUZ.jpgTo be fair it's even bigger

given how easy it is to replace the SSD buying the 64GB and swapping the SSD is the smart move; you can pickup a 1TB drive for the price difference
    gump1031's avatar
I believe valve have been honouring the warranty as long as the upgrade didn't directly break the device. They have even posted guides on how to disassemble the steamdeck. It took me about 20 minutes to do mine, and that was while being careful.

I've got to be honest, this is an awful device in design. It's huge. I mean the screen to body ratio is awful. Its 720p. Its not that powerful considering how beastly it looks. Battery sucks.

Then you consider the new quest 3 which is coming out. Which will be 2.4 teraflops vs this at 1.6 and offers full vr experience portable with 9x the resolution of the steam deck. That's the future of portable gaming.
    SmokeBangers's avatar
    Strange comparison.

Yep, got one in the first wave. Another thing which I really wanted and never use. Turned it on less than 10 times. Good piece of technology, but ultimately keep playing on my PC rather than on this.
    The.Lone.Ranger's avatar
Unfortunately, agree. I've had mine a year and have used it a lot more than 10 times but when I'm at home, always going to pick the PS5 or PC over the Steam Deck. Great when on holiday, but not turned mine on for about 2 months.

With the price of SSD falling grab the 64gb base model.

I own and love mine and have a 1tb SSD in it now but wish I got the cheapest model (I got the 256gb).

    Brilliant device though, either way.
    Rik_Powell's avatar
Wish I too went for the 64gb model but I pre-ordered the 512gb and ended up swapping it out for a 2TB drive anyway, oh well

I got a Bluetooth gamepad controller for my phone for £15 and use either the Steam Link or Moonlight app to play my PC remotely. 1080p 60fps, no probs. Get my gaming done in bed or on the toilet, living the dream.

If you’ve got a gaming PC already, worth considering that option, especially if you’re a filthy casual like me if I didn’t already have that, I’d buy a deck in a heartbeat!
    AKG86's avatar
I tried using Steam link to my TV from my PC, the lag was so bad I just couldn't get it working well. Shame really but ended up getting a Deck and love it

just checked my current steam library via this link store.steampowered.com/ste…mes and not that many of the games I'd currently like to play are on it (admittedly my library isn't all the new). Was very tempted tho...

Debating between this and the Switch. I plan to use this as a way to play Team Fortress 2 and other PC games, but was wondering if this work well for local multiplayer games I can play with my partner (which the Switch is admittedly good for like Mario Kart). Any advice would be super helpful thanks! (edited)
    sswats's avatar
Steam deck works fine with local multiplayer. Its a PC and you can plug in a variety of pads on to it. Plus plenty of local mp games on Steam.

The Switchs big advantage is portability. The Deck is big and cumbersome and takes up half your travel bag. If you plan on gaming on the go regularly and want to travel light, I think the switch is the better option.

I haven't put mine down since Christmas. I'm into all the retro devices and they all have their place, but at home on the couch, it's got to be the Steamdeck.

To the idiots saying Steam Deck is pointless, or out-dated or too big...

Steam Deck is for people who NEED mobile PC gaming with high compatibility, and excellent support, including a massive active community.

It is not some over-priced executive toy for fools with more money than sense- so it is practical above all else. For the man-children who love to buy themselves expensive hi-tech toys they never use, there are plenty of 'better' ways to waste your money. This is for people who actually buy items they need.

In other words, there is a real market for people who would love to sit at a good gaming PC, but cannot. They need to grab their gaming time whenever they can, at a moments notice, anywhere. Steam Deck allows the possibility of PC gaming for people who would otherwise have to give it up. And that is why the device has proven so popular. For those that don't get it, understand there are people who live different lives to you.

64gb is much better deal as using sdcard to expand storage is much cheaper and makes no real difference. Have been playing mine more than year so far good

I also want one despite have 2xgaming laptops with a 1660ti, 3060, 2xgaming desktops with RTX3080 and RX6700XT and a Razer Kishi 2 for my mobile. I think I must be diseased. Must resist.......temptation.
  15. LGB87's avatar
I understand some games are better than others, but the battery life is the biggest killer for this thing.

I've honestly barely used mine since buying last September, other than some Diablo 4 when it had first come out but was getting under 2 hours battery on that.

I simply installed Balder's Gate 3 earlier, took around an hour and it started with 88% battery and ended with 30%.

I like the idea of it, and sure it's great for some Indies, but am getting closer and closer to eBaying mine. (edited)

Pretty damn miserable, as you have to pirate a PC version of a game, and then try to get it running using Proton or Bottles. So much fiddling that you spend so long you might as well have worked and bought it.
  18. sucklead's avatar
For Windows only games (or anticheat) you can install Windows 11 on an SD card and boot to that without changing your main SteamOS install. Pretty easy to set up and works very well.

Oh that’s good to know. Main reason I was thinking of the ASUS ally was to gamepass

Had my steam deck for about a year and a bit and I work away alot so it's been incredible. The emulation alone is outstanding, switch, ps1, PS2, PS3, etc. I mainly use mine for platformers and then use my gaming pc when I'm at home and play anything competitive for the higher frame rate. One of the best purchases I have made in a long time, the touch pads and desktop mode are excellent too and connects to the TV really easily.
    James_Sutton's avatar
Depends what games really but I have the god of war games running on it absolutely fine GameCube runs like a dream, so does wiiu

Just need to have plenty of space on your storage or SD card because PS3 games are alot larger

Nintendo switch runs like a dream too just finished metroid dream at 60 fps

Last of us ps3 wouldn't run properly but you can now run the remaster on steam through the deck anyway too (edited)

If i get xbox game pass can i play mw2 2009 or bo1 multiplayer without any lag etc?

Just FYI you'd need to either stream them or install Windows to play game pass UWP games (unless I've missed a development)

With the 64gb out of stock worth going for the 256gb or waiting hoping it returns?
    reddragon105's avatar
There's no way I could justify spending £90 more for the 256GB version when I could get a 1TB drive for £75. They'll come back in stock eventually.

But if you really want one now, paying an extra £90 is better than not having one at all.

Since I can see that stock have been sent from Netherlands on comments. The process is very easy. I’ve returned to valve a new 256 model and was refunded within 2 weeks.

For when these come in stock again in the future:
Received my from the Netherlands within a week of purchase. It’s packaged like receiving a new Deck except there is an insert with “Refurbished” printed on there with all the other branding.
    Excellent experience overall.

Question to you guys that have put win 11 on for xbox... I am getting no controller is connected. I have looked and can't find how to use the steamdeck controllers. Anyone fixed this? Thanks!!
    MRVISH's avatar
Check out YouTube. There is a few solutions for this I can remember the exact names. But the seam deck does not support x input so it needs a software on top. I used to use a really good one before I sold my steam deck for an asus ally. (edited)
  26. djp2k8's avatar
For people who have ordered one, does it come in unmarked packaging? I ask I have just ordered one as a gift & hoping my partner won't see what it is when it gets delivered.
    slayermatt's avatar
There is the Steam logo on the box near the "Don't do this with the box" shipping notices, as well as the Valve returns address. It's relatively discrete but if they're expecting something like this might pick up on it! It doesn't explicitly say what it is
  27. aretwodeetwo's avatar
I have both a powerful gaming PC plus a Steam Deck.

The Deck is just so much more practical and I use the Deck about 70% of the time now - the main reason for this is Fast Suspend.

Being able to quickly pick up a game where I left it off has changed the way I game massively - I don't have to wait for the PC to start, load the game, etc etc - I can just pick up my Deck and play instantly when I've only got 20 minutes free.

For reference I've been playing Baldurs Gate on it, absolutely amazing. (edited)

Best handheld I've ever owned. I know there are question marks over performance for AAA games but I've never really had any major issues with performance yet and if I did I just reduce the frame rate a bit . I also get it about the bulky frame. It's very bold and out there with its large design. At first I did worry about it wondering if it wouldnt be comfy or ergonomic but after using it for the past 6 months or so, I'm definitely used to it and don't see it as an issue (I still think the ideal handheld console size should be smaller but it plays better than it looks like it should based on the design) I love the fact that I can dock this in an instant and take away when on the move. Battery life for me hasn't been too bad. I like to play indie titles and those tend to give longer play times. I got hours and hours out of vampire survivors for example. I've also stuck 2TB SSD in the thing and runs like a charm. Couldn't be happier with my deck really. My wish is that future iterations of the deck allow for better upgrade options to future proof the device but more of a future wishlist for it. these refurbished prices are good
    Big_Brian's avatar
Agree with pretty much all of this. My OG Switch feels like a flimsy toy whenever I (rarely) pick it up after owning the deck for 8 months. Steam deck is a bit of a beast but you soon get used to it and it would probably be handy as a makeshift weapon if anyone tries to break into my work van while I sleep.

Emulation is amazing. Worth it just for that
  31. razorwire's avatar
I've had mine for 4 months or so and there's not been a single day when I've not picked it up for a blast on something. I'm definitely not a gamer (excluding VR and a couple of handhelds for emulation my last console was the N64) so wasn't sure if this was going to sit in a drawer after a week or two, but it's just a great device. I bought it mainly for emulation (Switch, PS3, PS2, XBOX etc), at which it's a beast and I've had loads of fun discovering hundreds of games from the last 30 years I'd missed out on), but find myself playing more modern non-emulation stuff now.
  32. Robby_123's avatar
honestly if you love emulating its worth it, other than that i dont really use mine.

64gig out of stock. That's a shame as I'd be tempted to bite at that price! It's cheaper than the oled switch!
  37. Alexandru_Dura's avatar
Steam deck is already falling behind in performance and screen poor quality wouldn’t even pay 200 for it
    Richyroo's avatar
Well if you expect to be able to play ALL the latest games with all the bells and whistles, then yes you will be dissapointed. This is a £300-£400 handheld, so you have to keep your expectations in check.

I mainly use mine for my existing Steam library, indie games, and emulation (which it is excellent).
  38. Flying_Orange's avatar
I have sent one back for replacement. I got dreaded low GPU mhz bug and games were running really poor. None of the known fixes worked. If you are going to get mine refurb you will be lucky as my unit was pristine.
    Aerobiz's avatar
I had that too. Out of the box, didn't know what was happening at first. Had to send it back. Replacement has been perfect.

Best handheld i have ever bought, its just so good! Imagine your whole retro collection in the palm of your hand. The touch pads are amazing as are the back buttons and the battery life is ok. If you go on a plane trip you will need a power bank.
    Aerobiz's avatar
I love my Steamdeck and also have a 1TB card full of retro goodness, but I have to be honest...compared to an Anbernic, a Miyoo, a Retroid or even a Powkiddy device...the Steamdeck DPAD really sucks for retro games. It hates diagonals, it has a different give on the left as to the right (because of its placement on the edge) and overall it feels mushy compared to the goodness of original consoles or Chinese retro devices. It's such a damn shame because my retro collection looks and runs beautifully with all the bells and whistles I could want.
