Not really a "deal" unless you're on game pass, but more of a heads up that Age of Empires IV is now available for download/playing on Xbox consoles (finally!) and also I think via cloud gaming.

The console version is, I think, tailor-made for a better console experience (and possibly also compatible with mouse keyboard), but it's still downloading for me so I haven't had the chance to try everything out.

Steam version won't give you the console version unfortunately, but if you link Steam and Xbox accounts in-game then progress should transfer to console version. Not sure if it helps, but I was pleasantly surprised that (after the initial tutorial) my player level and all achievement and mastery progress from Steam version carried across!

Does anyone know if it has a kinda 'quick game' skirmish mode?
I think I'm too lazy to build up a settlement, but I love the idea of setting in on a pitched battle with some AI punters.

Probably does. Aoe2 has empire wars which is where you start about 5 or 10mins into a typical game with more vills, a barracks, houses,Mill and lumber camp. (edited)

I brought this years ago when first released, lent it out before I played it and never saw it again, so will be nice to finally try it!

Edit - oops I meant 3, didn't even know there was a 4! Guess they just skipped 3 for Xbox? (edited)

The game is not even 2 years old yet so 'years ago' seems a slight exaggeration!

Ages of empire 2 is amazing! The HD version was released and it's even better. The multiplayer games are still popular!!

No idea yet, sorry Apparently the whole interface was redesigned for "easy" play with a controller. Maybe give it a go with cloud gaming if it works well for you? It's always a bit laggy for me in the evening so I'm just leaving it to download overnight to fully enjoy tomorrow.

The problem with Game Pass is Microsoft keep the prices of their games high now. I'm not going to sub to anything, so it's like I'll go back to the old days of torrents lol.

You can Game Pass for minimal cost, in comparison to RRP. Torrenting won't keep gaming going.

I'm gonna give the tutorial a blast, see if I like it

You can if you have Game Pass Ultimate (ultimate should include console game pass and PC game pass). It's actually been available on Game Pass PC for a few years I think, but the console version was just released yesterday.

What a fantastic game AOE 2 was. One of the all time best. (edited)

If I buy a code for the PC version on the Microsoft store should it now work on the Xbox as well? (edited)
    shasnir's avatar
    Yes.
"Age Of Empires Anniversary Edition out today on Xbox consoles. Those who already own the PC version via the Microsoft Store will also be able to jump into the Xbox version for no extra cost thanks to it being an Xbox Play Anywhere title too. Moreover, being an Xbox first-party title, Game Pass subscribers can also jump in when the game is available."
