Portability meets power

We partnered with AMD to create Steam Deck's custom APU, optimized for handheld gaming. It is a Zen 2 + RDNA 2 powerhouse, delivering more than enough performance to run the latest AAA games in a very efficient power envelope.

Your Steam Library, anywhere
Once you've logged into Steam Deck, your entire Steam Library shows up, just like any other PC. You'll also see the compatibility rating of each game, indicating the kind of experience you can expect when playing. You can dynamically filter any view in your library by compatibility rating if you're looking for specific sorts of experiences.

Control with comfort
The Steam Deck was built for extended play sessions—whether you're using thumbsticks or trackpads—with full-size controls positioned perfectly within your reach. The rear of the device is sculpted to comfortably fit a wide range of hand sizes.

There's a dock, too.
The Steam Deck™ Docking Station props up your Steam Deck while connecting to external displays, wired networking, USB peripherals, and power. Whether connecting your Steam Deck to your living room TV, setting up on your work desk, or charging on your night stand, the Dock is perfect for extending the places and ways you can use your Steam Deck.

Isn't that the price? Sure I payed that over a year ago :/

It's more than likely to alert those that 64GB Deck models are back in stock - granted the price is the same.

I opted for a certified refurbished Steam Deck myself at around 270.

I thought I'd love this, pre-ordered the 512 when it was announced, waited a year until release, once I had the thing in my hands I spent a great few months with it before it getting sidelined by my oled switch and Zelda TOTK.

I got loads of cheap Steam sale games to add to my library, installed various emulators and loaded up all my old ROMs and it was a blast!

But the portability of it and battery became an issue with me until I ended up finding myself playing the XBSX and Switch on the sofa more and more.... before I even noticed I hadn't booted up my SD for over a month.

If it was my only console I reckon I would have kept it, I ended up selling it for roughly the same price I bought it for... brilliant bit of kit though just not for everyone.

    Just my thoughts

My 78 lines post got deleted cuz I edited it when it had replies.
Basically yes, well worth it for 350 pounds. You can upgrade it further down the line for much less than the more expensive model.
It has replaced my desktop gaming pc for over a year now, and I use it mostly on desktop mode due to its low power usage and pretty decent performance. I would compare it to a mid spec pc, only that pc would take at least double the power. For example a no gfx card, i5 gen 10 underperforms it for gaming at 30w, while a half decent graphics card takes at least 70w of power. While a steam deck hooked up to a monitor only seeps up 50w in total. Show your electricty provider the middle finger. Half of KW of power for 10 hours of gaming.
I upgraded to a 256gb SSD for 30 pounds on eBay. It has room for a 30gb Linux partion (I added a 256gb dedicated SD for Linux games), a 100 GB windows partion (with a 512gb SD for games) and another 100gb downloads partition. The downloads partition I use for windows downloads, since downloading anything big directly onto SD card will corrupt it after only a few hrs. So I download on SSD and move the stuff onto SD.
The interesting thing is that the steam deck plays off SD nearly as fast as off ssd. Once loaded, the game plays the same. Load times off SD I'd say are about 30% slower, but much faster than an HDD.
The thing is crazy optimized. It shouldn't pull off the performance it does. It runs dayz at 60fps mid gfx settings. It runs the likes of kingdom come and other open world games with no hitch.
Linux has 100% library compatibility once you installed glorious eggroll drivers. Google it.
It can also boot off SD cards, useful for small operating systems like batocera.
So yeah basically I use it as a desktop and I won't ever go back to bulky desktop. My next setup will have to be something down the same line. A newer generation processor from the same family, hopefully no gamepad or built in display.
I promise not to edit the post if you reply to it. It disappears. (edited)

mid-range pc would have at least 3060/ti card on board, this thing is not even close to this, the deck is entry point pc equivalent. It was well worth it in 2022 but in 2023 it's lagging behind. (edited)

when a game works it's great but about half the games I've tired have issues
    _sion's avatar
The number of problems you have depends on what games you like. I've tried 40-50 games from Steam, Epic and gog, haven't run into any real problems. Ghostwire Tokyo needed the graphic settings altered to hit a good framerate and a couple needed to be assigned a specific version of proton, each took a minute or 2 to fix

The main issue Steam OS has is with the anticheat software integrated into online multiplayer games. Some of those will not work on the steamdeck unless you install Windows. (edited)

Stop it. I want one, but can't justify paying it. So please, no more posting steam deck deals. I don't need more debt!

    Heat added... Grudgingly...

  9. MrAkagi's avatar
Bet they will start shifting these before long as they will most likely have a new model in the works soon. This has been a successful experiment by Valve. I don't like the form factor so much but a more streamlined V2 I might pick up.
    Jamborino's avatar
The lead designer has said it doesn't make sense to release a new one before 2025 if they want to continue hitting high performance per watt. I like their stance as it means we should see a massive performance leap but similar thermals/power consumption.

It wouldn't surprise me if they release one with an OLED display before then though.
  10. picorosco's avatar
I'm always tempted to get one of these, but I'm always put off by reading the rumours about Valve Deckard, and want to wait for that instead. If it turns out to be a rumoured standalone VR headset, that can also play your steam library on a virtual monitor, then I'd probably never use the steam deck.

In the opinion of those of you who own a steam deck, is it better to buy the cheapest one, and upgrade to a SSD? Is it difficult to do? I've seen some videos that said it was easy, but it looked less easy than they said as they were showing how to do it (edited)
    Jamborino's avatar
I purchased the 512gb model and regret it as I ended up just upgraded the SSD so I'd say go for the 64gb if you're handy with a screwdriver. It's a 10 minute job and as long as you don't forget to take your SD card out (it snaps it if you do) it's an easy job.

I'm interested in the Deckard having owned most headsets so far but unless the Deckard has some special tech to stop motion sickness and the general discomfort that comes with wearing the headset I think the Steam Deck will still have a place.
  11. RealDonaldTrump's avatar
What kind of games can you download on this?
    Parzival2's avatar
All of your Steam Library, Windows games, Epic Games (if you side load) all your ROM's if you do the do you can make the SD into a bit of an emulation beast. I had NES up to Xbox running on it using Emulation Station and others.
  12. cigbunt's avatar
I want a Rog ally but they are double the cost of this
    james2k66's avatar
    And?
  13. Swayeee's avatar
Not a deal but still a great device.

If you do get this one, I would highly recommend installing a slightly larger m.2 SSD. The proton installations and cache/shader files wipe out the 64gb fast. (edited)
    Paceee's avatar
Totally agree, you can get a 256mb 2230 for like £15 to replace the 64gb - It's the shader chaches that fill the drive more than anything. I'm using a 1tb micro sd card for everything else.
  14. mineshpatel11's avatar
Has anyone had any experience playing Halo Infinite on this? If it can play it pretty well, I’d be all up for it. YouTube shows it working, but how easy is it to install it? Thanks in advance.
    Andysan's avatar
Yep, just been playing multiplayer now on it actually.

I don't have any numbers re frame rate etc, but from what I can tell it handles it perfectly capably.

In terms of installation, I just searched for it in the Steam store and hit the button. Some games require tweaking etc but this did not.

Not played a Halo game online since Reach, I feel completely out of my depth lol (edited)

    Specs look outdated.
    Radec's avatar
you're better off having a look at benchmarks for games, and reviews. spec sheets have never painted the full picture.
  16. Richyroo's avatar
Best purchase I have made in a long time.

I use mine for the odd new Steam game, including my existing library.

I have also spent a few months on and off setting it up for emulation. I now have about 20 systems up to Gamecube, Dreamcast, with about 60-80 games each, all personally chosen and curated by myself. Everything is tagged properly, with boxart and screenshots etc.
It has been a fun little project, the SteamDeck truly is the ultimate emulation machine due to the versitilty. (edited)
    reviewz's avatar
Thats exactly the reason I bought one, just to tinker and make a decent emulation retro console as well as have the ability to play the odd newer title.
  17. Relievo's avatar
    Usual price, not a deal.
  18. R2Pacman's avatar
This isn't a deal, this is just RRP. The case is always included as it comes packaged in it. Also a reservation fee of £4. And reservation servers are full.

Update: does appear to now be showing as in stock for both 64GB and 256GB versions with no reservation fee (at time of writing). 512GB is out of stock. (edited)

Awesome device. Been playing mine daily (when time permits) since I purchased it. Upgraded mine to 2Tb and have emudeck on it as well, really is superb.

Looks like the 512GB one in the pic, from the carrying case.

Just got the 256gb refurb model last week. It was like new, not a mark on it.

Great purchase, already loving it. Bit of a slab, didn't realise the size of it but used to it now.
    GeneralWaste's avatar
I would totally buy a desktop steam deck with the same power, no built in screen or gamepad
  22. GeneralWaste's avatar
And to answer to an older reply, no you don't need another system to copy stuff from and on SDs. The deck has a built in SD reader. The internal SD. It can copy stuff from SSD in windows. You can connect external SD readers to your steam deck via your steam deck hub. You can't do without it. You need it to install OS, to hook up a monitor, mouse, keyboard etc. A 3rd party one is under 20£ now on amazon
  23. reviewz's avatar
Just ordered the Corsair MP600 1TB from Amazon amazon.co.uk/gp/…NB/ for £74.99 to upgrade the 64GB drive. Was going to go with the Sabrent but this was a bit cheaper and it's a bit faster.
  24. djp2k8's avatar
And I just bought the 512gb refurb!
  25. Radec's avatar
the steam deck has been my best purchase in years. absolutely love it.
however, despite the deck being incredible value for the money; this isn't a deal. it's just back in stock.

this model can* now appears on sale for £315 on Steam.

Mine arrived a few days ago - upgraded to 512 ssd and 256gb sd card with win 11 on it (although very impressed with linux desktop experience). Am loving it - got some previously PlayStation exclusives (Spider-Man , horizon and god of war) to add to my steam collection and it runs great. (edited)

mainly a black heat shield and new fan are the most obvious changes. (edited)

My steam Deck box was double sellotaped; Very well done it is not that noticeable.
Do customs open packages then re-tape or have I a customer return refurbished ?
Has anyone else noticed this on their box.
