Couple of corrections and tips from a postie
    ...
    First off
Royal Mail & The Post Office are two DIFFERENT companies.

Since Royal Mail started the parcel collect service they've seen HUGE growth and take up, so much so the max amount of parcels we can collect from a customer is up to 50 now.

Naturally The Post Office weren't happy about this and the loss of business, plus they don't sell Tracked 48/24 as a service, only royal mail signed for and special delivery.

So to appease this the buying of tracked products from Royal Mail can now be dropped into a post office for a 16p fee.
(You still can't "buy" the Tracked service from The Post Office).

If you take an item to a Royal Mail DELIVERY OFFICE, with the label already on it or the customer service point printing it for you this is free of charge.

If you book a collection from your work or home address this is also free, and you can chose to print the label or have the postie bring it.

Once we scan the item on the pda, you will get an email receipt of the collection.

(pro tip, key the tracking number into the royal mail app for tracking updates)

Even if you've only booked ONE item, you can add up to an additional 49 to the pick up, say for example an ebay listing ends overnight, so long as one is "booked" you can add additional items (the additional items MUST have labels already afixed for the postie to scan).

Lot of people saying they don't want to wait in all day... You don't have to, you can select collect item/s from a Safeplace, ie garage, shed, cupboard, storage box, the postie will then get a notification to collect from the desired safeplace instead.

Pretty much all Amazon returns are using Royal Mail Tracked now, so can also be done via the amazon app or website returns section.

    Hope this helps a bit.

It’s really annoying to see so many sellers continue to use Evri when RM now has very competitive pricing.
    garryc1981's avatar
If i have one item i use RM. I usually have multiple though and can't figure out how to print all the labels in one go. With Evri you can import them and print off as many as you like.in one go. Maybe you can do this with RM but I've never figured out how.

Evri were also cheaper for a long time and old habits die hard.

As a postie myself you can leave the parcels in a safe place to be collected by us.

Also you can if you wish buy your postage on the RM app and come into our callers offices (check opening times) we scan the qr code on your phone and print the sticky label there and then. We are not perfect no, but 32m addresses daily come rain or shine

Bar Xmas day and Boxing Day

I've been selling a lot of stuff on ebay lately and been using the Royal Mail app with collection at home and the postman brings the label. It couldn't be any easier.

Dropping off at a Post Office costs an extra 16p on the Royal Mail site, so wonder if anything happens for eBay purchases if you do that.

If you buy Tracked postage on Royal Mail and don't pay the 16p surcharge at the time, they will collect it afterwards if you do drop it off at a Post Office (you have to tick to agree to this when ordering).

  6. raich333's avatar
is this for small parcels only? mines small but over 2kg.... (edited)
    Maaark's avatar
Yeah, package has to meet both size AND weight requirements.

Your postage will cost more (up to 10kg is £6.49 via Tracked 48 on RM's website).

Royal mail have so many irregular deliveries in my area, usually just once a week as they don't have enough staff. Avoid.
    Peew971's avatar
You mean avoid if we live in your area, right?

Royal Mail service has been great for me. Collections and delivery always very reliable. Evri has been awful with parcels taking 5 or more days when they should have been 48 hours.

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy postage and use the "bring the label" service for collections? It did not seem that way last I checked
    Bargainhunt's avatar
Yes I used that service yesterday ,label printed and brought by postie at no extra cost

I been using this service a,while now ,collection usually next day after booking .saves going to post office
  11. samjpullen's avatar
I've been using this service, but using the Royal Mail site as they give you the option to bring the label and for me currently that is a god send as I don't have a printer at home and the only location in my town is open from 8am to 10am (and they're trying to close that down) so these collections seem like they're going to become the default soon for Royal Mail (where I live anyway)

Off topic sorry, but I was shocked to see how much the Royal Mail large letter categories in particular are going up at the start of October.
I appreciate how competitive their parcel prices are, however as they don’t have the same competition for large letters… the prices will soon match parcel prices.

Yes, RM lost a lot of orders from me because of this and thanks to the reduced eBay delivery fees (until yesterday). Some of RM's prices have gone up by more than 30%.

Been using this feature a lot on Royal Mail’s website. But it’s annoying when you book collection for next day and they don’t end up coming. Had that happen yesterday so went to the post office to send it. Then an hour later, the 16p surcharge came through which is fine but when you request next day collection, would be nice if it actually happened…

No collection so far today, customers will be pleased.
    powerhousenath's avatar
Same. First failed collection today with me. Item due to be delivered tomorrow...

Stay in till 4 o'clock till they turn up,what a waste of a day!
Could be dropped off at a Post Office at 9am
    Rellik088's avatar
They pick mine up at 10am
  19. Alexwm's avatar
Collection is a pain, your best bet is to print instone as it gives the flexibility to drop it off whenever you like.
    Rellik088's avatar
How is it? Sold 20 items on ebay last month. All of them collected by the Royal Mail and they brought all the labels with them. So easy
  20. dm01's avatar
As others have said, collection on this service is hit and miss, our regular postman does not like to collect and rarely does, if you manage to catch him in the street, he will feign ignorance and reluctantly scan it but otherwise he just won't call. Currently he's off sick, has about 3+ months off sick per year and these times replacement postmen bring the backed up post every few days, so in my case I would much rather pay the extra and take to my local post office who are much more reliable, but if you actually have a good postman who comes at a regular time each day then this collection service is a great idea. Is this a permanent offer or just for a few days/weeks

Seems nonsensical to use 2nd class if this is cheaper and tracked, don't think I've ever used them since this.
It's even better to use 24 tracked instaed of signed for, since no one actually signs anyway.
