sorted byAll have been working for years now. I have one thats been running 24/7 for a year straight now.
Recertified means reconditioned (by Western Digital themselves) so this is not a new drive its a drive that failed or was returned to them , they reconditioned it and are now selling it cheaper than a new one.

and then an enclosure, I got one for 11 pounds I think? get them cheaper here and there. you miiiiight be able to get 1tb at ballpark that figure tho. be a bit of a push.
I would also disagree that nvme is better at every metric tho. if you are continuously writing and clearing the disk - security cam footage, or something like nvidias instant replay for example - then platter imo probably has an argument given that's going to negatively impact SSD longevity doing all those writes constantly. so even before you get into cost there are some jobs it's better for. right tool for the right job.
Heat added all the same though...
(Not a Mac owner myself so don't know much about them, but a non techy friend says his existing Samsung one has died and is looking for a replacement).
