Checking the smart data on the 3 I've bought over the years, they're more like "open box", as there are only a handful of hours on them.
All have been working for years now. I have one thats been running 24/7 for a year straight now.

What App do you need to check that?

Would these be suitable as extra storage for a PS4?
    eternald's avatar
Yep use one for ps4/5 and one for the one x works perfectly

Thanks. Been hanging on for a decent deal on a 2tb drive. Managed to snag one. Bargain at this price.

Would you trust your data on one of these? Seriously!
    deleted1949126's avatar
You shouldn't trust it on just one drive, you should have backups

Can these be shucked? For nas
    googanhiem's avatar
Nope. Pretty much all the current wd 2.5" sized usb drives are not sata.

    What does SE Recertified mean?
    zaphod79's avatar
SE is their 'name' for the drive , its the model type so this is not just a Elements its an Elements SE (special edition?) , I *think* the SE vs non SE is to do with the cable type but you can just ignore that part

Recertified means reconditioned (by Western Digital themselves) so this is not a new drive its a drive that failed or was returned to them , they reconditioned it and are now selling it cheaper than a new one.

There is nothing LESS reliable than these old (engineering design) small external HDDs. At the same time flash costs hardly more per TB, and is infinitely better in every metric

Show us all this 2tb ssd or usb then that costs "hardly more" than £37

Need them to bring the 4tb back in stock. Gotta get one of these to store all my films n series on.

Why? Everything streams legitimately or not

well, I don't think you're touching 37 pounds. this I think would be the low end ish? this is expired but similar promos are pretty common, flash storage has legit plummeted

    hotukdeals.com/sha…625

and then an enclosure, I got one for 11 pounds I think? get them cheaper here and there. you miiiiight be able to get 1tb at ballpark that figure tho. be a bit of a push.

I would also disagree that nvme is better at every metric tho. if you are continuously writing and clearing the disk - security cam footage, or something like nvidias instant replay for example - then platter imo probably has an argument given that's going to negatively impact SSD longevity doing all those writes constantly. so even before you get into cost there are some jobs it's better for. right tool for the right job.

    Excellent, thanks very much.

Should be cheaper, can get 2tb ssd for bit more
    Stitch123's avatar
What SSD would you recommend ?
  14. aLV426's avatar
Almost at my £15/Tb threshold, but not quite, also I rather have a larger capacity.
Heat added all the same though...
    badheadday's avatar
The 4 TB version meets your criteria.

I'm getting shipping at nearly £10 what am I doing wrong

Could this be formatted to work as a Time Machine backup on a Mac?

(Not a Mac owner myself so don't know much about them, but a non techy friend says his existing Samsung one has died and is looking for a replacement).
