Isn’t something like this better value

Seagate Game Drive for Xbox, 2TB, External Hard Drive Portable, USB 3.2 Gen 1, Black with built-in green LED bar, Xbox Certified, 2 year Rescue Services (STKX2000400) amzn.eu/d/h…FcL

Those are great for last generation games, but you can't play Xbox Series X|S games directly from such drives. They can only be used as backup storage for the latest games; still need to transfer Xbox Series X|S games back to main storage in order to actually play them.

    It should. But it won't.

If you open a new Amazon Business account (with the link provided on another post somewhere) you can take 50% off this.

3 years later... I'd expect the 2TB to be this point by now. Pity they didn't go the M.2 route like Sony.

Yeah it's an odd choice, Sony doing the typical Microsoft thing and Microsoft doing the typical Sony thing

It's really hard justifying spending £125 on an SSD when I got a Xbox s of Amazon for £150.
    I wish they'd allow 3rd party SSD's. (edited)

What really gets me is not being able to play X/S enhanced games from the external hardrive. Unless I'm being stupid, there's no way to play the standard version if a game has this.

I’ll say it again, I think there’s plenty storage and you’d only bother with this if you had REALLY. Dodgy internet

When Currys had the 2TB for £199, people were saying "wait, it will drop further". Glad I didnt listen. Got it for 199 with £19 cashback as well. Yes it is more expensive than the 4TB I have in my PS5, but this is so easy to move between machines unlike the PS5.
    the-running-man's avatar
The number of people that actually do that must be tiny. I've never had the need to move anything from my series X.
Definitely prefer the PS5 method, the money I saved was the equivalent to 3 full price games.

Even though black Friday is pretty much a mirage now we might just see a £99 with a flake on this.

    Maybe some sprinkles.

    Maybe just crushed nuts.

I just have a 2TB QLC SATA SSD in an enclosure on mine. Move anything I'm not currently playing to it, then if I do want to play something on there, it only takes a short amount of time to move back to internal storage. Doesn't seem to matter what kind of drive you use, they always top out at a little bit under 3Gb/s when you're moving stuff back (I've tried it with a NVMe drive in an enclosure too with no difference in move speed.

It seems like a happy halfway house between waiting an hour for a 100GB+ game to download and having it available instantly.

That's cos M$ crippled it USB wise

Been waiting months for the Microsoft store to stock them so I can trade in my points, seems odd that they sell all the other accessories but haven't had these in stock for over a year. (edited)
    beaversrus's avatar
You could sacrifice the greater difference of your points and get amazon vouchers instead you choose value of your available points. Sssh don't tell everyone.

Ms rewards Abuse will remove Amazon vouchers for sure. (edited)

Could Microsoft release a compatible enclosure for standard drives. In terms of storage space this is expensive ( double ).

But prices are going down so heat added.

oh so another prime day and they stop selling it because wd drive is cheaper now but still dearer than this, (edited)
