About this deal

Update 1
There are now over 3,476 Warm Welcome Spaces across the UK
Sadly, once again, we are at the time of year where many people are struggiling to keep warm, due to increases in energy costs and general day to day prices, like food.

Many Councils, local charities and organsiations, like last year, are now opening up, or have opened 'Warm spaces' to the public, and many include free tea/coffee, Wi-FI, Charging Facilities, Toilets, Food etc.

Some even offer homework clubs.

You can see what your local/nearest offers on the map, search by postocde or other options.

If you know of a Warm Space, and it's not on the map, you can register here

We are determined to equip and support thousands of free, warm, and welcoming spaces in communities across the UK. Working with churches and other faith groups, civil society organisations, businesses and Local Authorities, we want to make sure that nobody is left to suffer on their own this winter.

Each warm welcome space will be:

Warm Welcome Spaces are:

Warm

Warm Welcome Spaces are heated and offer refreshments such as tea/coffee. Come in and feel the warmth.

Welcoming

Warm Welcome Spaces are inclusive spaces where everyone can expect a warm welcome from staff and volunteers.

Free

Warm Welcome Spaces are free to enter.
It's a great place to connect with your community and make new friends.

Safe

Every Warm Welcome Space is a safe place to be. Lots of spaces can also signpost you to other local services that can support you.

Incase any one isn't aware, every Sikh Gurdwara promotes attendance including a free meal (unlimited portions) and most of the time there's tea available. The only rule is to cover your head with a scarf/bandana (provided if need be) and not be under the influence of booze/drugs

To be honest I once saw a guy turn up intoxicated asking for food, they brought him a hot plate of food outside the premises and kept offering him a refill.

This is available every single day of the year regardless of religion etc. (edited)

    This is great, thank you

The money they’re spending on these places, they should just subsidise electric/gas, we need nationalised energy

Well, I volunteer in a warm space. All food and drink is free, and I'm not sure who you mean by 'they', but all our food has been bought by our church membership. We're waiting on a possible grant from a prospective donor, but no guarantee we will receive anything. To the best of my knowledge, all the spaces that are in churches are funded by the church memberships/congregations.

Hello, I'm renting from a private landlord who initially verbally promised the flexibility to use heating when needed. However, he has now installed an automatic controller that only runs for 5 hours, and my room lacks insulation, causing discomfort. I wake up with a blocked nose daily and find this unfair. Any advice on how to handle this situation would be appreciated.

Citizens advice would be the first place I would start. Hope you get it resolved.

I know people are not happy about these but i would also add that for the older people in our communities, these places not only provide somewhere warm and a hot drink they also provide company and have helped a lot of people from becoming isolated.

If you can I'd recommend volunteering at one of them, very heartwarming.

It's horrible to see how the English family unit/support network has broken down. My older work colleagues of English ethnicity always light up with joy when they speak of the good old days when family supported each generation.

NGL, as a uni student again (spent the last 3 years working in a hospital as an Associate Practitioner but quickly realised in order to make it up the ranks, I need more than a BSc (my degree is in Biomedical Science) I found myself going to the library or using the computer rooms on campus more and more. Primarily because of the lack of distractions though as I frequently game if my mind wanders…

Anyway, I have noticed it remarkably warmer in these places than with my housemates! (edited)

If you are in need of a warm space and you have children don't forget to drop into your local children's centre, which don't seem to be on this map.

They may not know about the map it's a national initiative whereas last year a lot of people just did their own. Note for others: If you can't see anything for your local area check your councils website

What an absolute state this country is in. Appalling.
    jimbo23's avatar
Not exclusive to this country, and you've been reading too much media hype.

20 years ago if you had said there would be nearly 3 thousand food banks and these Warm spaces in Britain no one would have believed you.
    jimbo23's avatar
20 years ago the first food bank was opened in Germany, so it was only going to grow from there.

Back in the 80s there were many places you could spend all day or night staying warm - it was called

Crazy that this is something that has needed to exist in 2023. Welcome to the UK...

It’s unfortunate this is necessary, but this is still a lovely thing all the same. There are probably people suffering just as much from loneliness as there are from cold. This helps with both.

Nice idea but it really shouldn’t be a thing.

Just a note to say that some of these spaces actually charge for "sessions", albeit a nominal amount.

Was speaking to security in a shop the other day, he was telling me how people with their recent UC payments (£300) are coming in, waving the cash and spending it on booze.

This is why we have schemes like this..

It's sad, but true. I have friends who work for DWP and honestly, some of the customers they have are just the lowest of the low.
I can't wait for law to be passed where it gives DWP the power to see where people's benefits are spent.

Great Post OP, 🔥as these places can be a place for ppl to have human connection aswell as staying warm especially with the announcement certain energy companies will be able to install prepaid metres to those already struggling with energy bills

Why has my post reminding people to be remain SARS-CoV-2 cautious in shared indoor spaces been deleted?
    jimbo23's avatar
Not sure but zero people would pay attention to it anyway.

My 50 year old back boiler recently broke down but the government made it illegal to replace it with a modern one. Thanks a lot, numpties, house is freezing - really appreciate that.
I'm sure there aren't many MP's having to worry about keeping warm.
A modern A-rated boiler is a lot more energy-efficient, than having to use electric heaters all over the house.
