And good news for existing owners of The Last of Us Part II on PlayStation 4! You will be able to upgrade to a digital version of The Last of Us Part II Remastered for $10 USD3 at launch.4 You’ll also be able to import your saves from the original game to Part II Remastered.

Added by @cyberbabenilorac

The Last of Us Part II Remastered is designed to let you dig deeper into both its development and mechanics. Chief among these is a brand-new mode called No Return, a roguelike survival mode designed to let players prove their mettle in randomized encounters and experience The Last of Us Part II’s combat in a fresh experience.

The mode includes a host of playable characters to choose from – some playable for the first time in The Last of Us franchise (which you may have spotted in our trailer) – who each come with their own traits to suit different playstyles. Players will chart their own course on each run, choosing between various stealth and combat encounters that will pit you against a range of enemies, with unique twists that can add new, unexpected factors to any given encounter.

4240385_1.jpg
Each run will offer a new chance to decide what rewards you get after each encounter, how you spec out your character, and more. Unlock more characters, skins, and more as you progress to use in the mode, customize your own runs, and compete on a global leaderboard as part of a Daily Run2. We’re excited to share more about No Return as we get closer to launch.

For those who have already played The Last of Us Part II, we know the included sections featuring a playable guitar were a favorite for many, and you burgeoning rockstars impressed us with your performances. So we’ve introduced a new Guitar Free Play mode, which will let you strum the strings across a host of unlockable instruments, use audio FX pedals to modulate your performance, and play as different characters in several in-game locations to customize the mood and feel of your set.

And for both new and returning players interested in learning more, we’ve designed Part II Remastered to offer a comprehensive dive behind-the-scenes of how our studio brought this game to life. A new set of Lost Levels in Part II Remastered allow players a unique chance to check out some playable sequences previously cut from the game. These aren’t fully finished levels, but rather early-development slices that not only let you see some new glimpses of Part II’s world, but also include embedded developer commentary to give them richer context. Explore these spaces and hear directly from the team about the intention of aspects of each level – this is a unique inclusion for our studio and we’re excited to allow players a glimpse into the creative process.

4240385_1.jpgWe’ve also included newly recorded director’s commentary across the campaign’s cutscenes from director Neil Druckmann, narrative lead Halley Gross, and actors Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Laura Bailey. They assembled to offer insight into the story and its characters that mean so much to both our team and our fans, and we’re delighted to give fans even more understanding of the team’s approach to this story.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered will feature enhanced graphics, including native 4K output1in Fidelity Mode, 1440p upscaled to 4K1 in Performance Mode, an Unlocked Framerate option for TVs that support VRR, increased texture resolution, increased Level-of-Detail distances, improved shadow quality, animation sampling rate, and more. It all brings the world of Part II’s story to life in richer and smoother detail, from the snow-swept mountains of Jackson, Wyoming to the rainy cityscape of Seattle, Washington, and should make a first visit or a return trip to the complex journeys of Ellie and Abby all the more engrossing.

Part II Remastered takes advantage of the PS5’s power and features in more ways as well, including improved loading times. Part II Remastered also incorporates DualSense wireless controller haptic feedback and adaptive triggers integration to better immerse you in every moment of combat and exploration.

4240385_1.jpgWe’ve ensured Part II’s award-winning suite of accessibility options returns for the PS5 experience, alongside new additions like the inclusion of Descriptive Audio and Speech to Vibrations, which uses the DualSense controller to indicate character speech and cadence. The unlockable Speedrun Mode, included in The Last of Us Part I, will also be coming to Part II Remastered, allowing players to post their best times. Following The Last of Us Part I, The Last of Us Part II Remastered includes the ability to unlock bonus skins for Ellie, Abby, and their weapons that we’re excited for players to see and take some incredible Photo Mode shots with. You can get a first look at some in our announcement trailer. And speaking of Photo Mode, we’ve made some additions that players of The Last of Us Part I may be familiar with, including dynamic lighting, Frame Forward, and Gaze Direction, as well as new frame and logo options.

We’re so excited to natively bring The Last of Us Part II to the PlayStation 5 as the definitive way to experience the sequel and everything it has to offer, while also offering fans new and returning deeper levels of appreciation for the work that went into it. Pre-orders will be available beginning December 5, both for the standard edition, as well as The Last of Us Part II Remastered W.L.F. Edition, which will be exclusively available direct from PlayStation in select markets (United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Benelux, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Austria). It includes a SteelBook® display case, four enamel pins, a Washington Liberation Front Patch, and a total of 47 Society of Champions trading cards, including eight holographic cards. These were a favorite of Part II players to collect in-game, and we’re so happy we could bring these to life. Check it out below:

Cool. One of the best games I've ever played.

If you have no respect for the original characters sure

I picked this up on it's original release and sat in my collection for quite some time by the point in which I played it I'd heard all the negativity thrown its way but when I got stuck In I realised how great it was.

As much as I want the next new game I'll take this
    Seanspeed's avatar
While there's valid complaints, it's almost like most of the negativity was driven by people with an agenda more than anything...

Will the garbage story be upgraded too?

You get your garbage now in 60fps with a hoard mode.

Good job I bought the PS4 version for £7.99 last year during Sony's Black Friday event.
I still think TLOU Part 2 doesn't need a remaster yet but it is what it is...
$10 upgrade, can live with that.

My question is, as I'm playing PS4 version on my PS5, will my current save transfer across?
Can I continue from where I am currently after I upgrade to the "remastered" version?

    UPDATE: Found my answer
You’ll also be able to import your saves from the original game to Part II Remastered.

I loved the game but it truly was a bleak experience.

    Phenomenal game. 10/10
    deleted1681368's avatar
Phenomenal gameplay. Story, not so much. Naughty Dog took an extra six months to tack on a double ending that has nothing new to say. Narratively its a mess.
  9. staticthreat0's avatar
A remaster of a game that is barely 3 years old. Total joke. Not even going to get started on the state of this game and it's 'narrative'.

Not even in the same league/dimension/planet when compared to the first.
    nemophilist's avatar
Yeah, I can't believe people fall for this, regardless of what you think about the game itself, it's a remaster for a game that does not need a remaster, the same way they did a tlou1 remake which wasn't needed... they're just milking them
  10. justabout72's avatar
the most overrated game of 2020 gets a remaster....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  11. FinalBoss's avatar
So physical copies can be upgraded to the digital remastered version?
    nickroll's avatar
    Yep!
  12. toner84's avatar
This is amazing news... Heard a rumour few months back that this might be on the way, nice you can get the upgrade if you own the PS4 version.

Thanks to to bringing it to our attention ... But the mods are so inconsistent on this site... I've had deals declined before because 'its not physically available yet'?
  13. musefan2001's avatar
That is a great deal for disc owners, poor show for digital 😳
    Peew971's avatar
Why is that? It’s the same upgrade path for digital

So we don't buy/pre-purchase anything until release day?

I wonder how much of an graphical improvement we will see from PS4 Pro version to PS5. It already looks very good even to this date considering it came out in 2020.

I hope we see full visual support like Insomniac does with their games. 120Hz + VRR support, RT?, Performance/Fidelity etc
    mitzg1993's avatar
I would suspect it is Quality mode with 4K at 30FPS and Performance mode with 1440p upscaled to 4K at 60FPS. No RT because they don't need it for this kind of cinematic game.

If you have a 120hz TV, Quality mode will probably go up to 40FPS and if your TV also has VRR, you will see the framerates float around 70-85FPS in Performance mode. These were the same settings that TLOU Part 1 had on PS5
  16. ChristopherDias's avatar
Just to clarify, we will be able to upgrade at launch, not now?
    Spark's avatar
The upgrade option doesn't seem to be available yet so far as I can see.

I’m gonna say it… another cash grab. The new rockstar..I can’t wait to play last of us on ps6..7…8… another £60-100 physical release.? This can’t be all naughty dog has to give!!! Same as what they did to consumers with uncharted, I know I’m ranting but stop being part of the problem.
    nickroll's avatar
They've made some of the greatest games of the last few generations so of course there'll be interest in better versions of them. Obviously it's not all they have to give as they're working on new games behind the scenes too.
  18. nicko42's avatar
Sony continuing to pull out all the stops in their quest to have the dullest generation in years.
    Mew405's avatar
Yo dog we heard you love remasters so we remastered your remaster.
  19. deleted1681368's avatar
Great game mechanically but in terms of story Naughty Dog weren’t able to catch lightning in a bottle again.
    Seanspeed's avatar
I dunno, I really appreciated the bold way they told the story, structurally. I do think they went a little too hard in trying to up the 'shock' factor, but as a story about trauma, it's pretty well done. That said, I think the story would have been much better had it stopped at a certain specific point that I'm guessing most people who have played it know what I'm talking about. Would have been the perfect ending. Not happy, but would have saved a load of excess misery.

If you don't like the story, why don't you change it yourself?
  21. Deccydoda's avatar
AHHH, Naughty Dog the prestigious studio that loves to release the same games as many times as possible 🤦‍♂️
    nickroll's avatar
    Didn't read the enhancements then
  22. luffydude's avatar
The game is 3 years old. They are selling you what should've been a patch (edited)
    nickroll's avatar
Already had a free patch for PS5. Why should new content be free? Do you work for free?
  23. Rafael_'s avatar
The mighty ND have fallen so hard this gen, there are more remasters than originals for this franchise, no sign of their new single player game, factions is dead in the water, half the gen is gone. Thankfully Insomiac has taken their spot
    Jay_m's avatar
"Fallen" how dramatic can you get. They release last of us 2 in 2020 one of the greatest video games in the last 5 years.

The development cycle is now 5 to 6 years for games of this quality. They have produced the 2 remasters in the meantime, alongside the new game, to get junior devs up to speed on dev tools while they work on their new game that will likely arrive 2025

You'll have to pay me to play this dumpster fire! Everyone knows that Ghost of Tsushima was the game of 2020... You never see that under a tenner!

you know you gone and started a riot now....
  25. R2Dom2's avatar
Oooh, thank you for the heads-up. Properly priced upgrade. I hope it inspires them to offer the same upgrade path for TLOU 1. I’d like to play that first but can’t justify the £40+ for a game I’ve already bought twice already.
  26. Ryan_Brown5Ib's avatar
A PS5 remake of Uncharted 2 would be interesting to see
    GOODSTUFF's avatar
I’d love to see Uncharted 1-3 fully remastered for PS5 rather than the Nathan Drake Collection which just upscaled the PS3 version to 1080p, or atleast thats what it seemed like (edited)

I thought the game was good.  Much rather have played as Joel and continue the story with him.  The Ellie story just didn’t work for me. Granted the story is based around her being the ‘chosen one’. But found it more interesting playing as Joel the protector/father figure.  Maybe they could have done a godfather 2 style and switched between both stories and sync at the end.    Plus part 2 was waaaaay tooo long.
    Dan_Eaglestone's avatar
I feel this would of been better as well, it took quite a long time before we switched characters and then it started to ping pong between them towards the end and I just couldn’t wait to finish the game and not in a good way either (edited)
  28. mark6220's avatar
Superb game. You will never see better ai and realistic npc behaviour than in this game.
Play on highest difficulty. It's stunning. Ai is Better than anything on pc.
Hdr is lovely. Forestation is way better than Rdr2 and such high quality on pc because it's more realistic.
One of the finest games I've ever played.
It puts rubbish like mirage to shame. The stealth in that game is a ludicrous as it gets.
In last of us 2 , the npc behaviour is actually realistic. Hardly any games manage to achieve that. Especially in the last few years (edited)

Ugh, they just have to release this so close to Like A Dragon. I’ve put over 300 hours into the original release and I already know I’m gonna do it again with that easy upgrade path, prefer the steelbook I already have too to make it easier to just go digital
    luffydude's avatar
Like a dragon is the far superior game. It is not even close

In the FAQs it states you need to keep the disc in while you play as an FYI so you can't just purchase, upgrade then sell back.
    nickroll's avatar
Same for all of these upgrades tbf. Otherwise the whole world could share a single disc to upgrade

Tell me there’s a difference between these two opening scenes…one is the greatest films and the other is one of the greatest games…but when you experience them for the first time…it can never be replicated. I love the last of us games and uncharted, but it’s not love when games are on there 3rd etc cycle. Anyway I can respect npcs for buying the same game again, if they can respect a main character pointing out the issue ❤️

I’m glad they’re allowing those that have paid it get it for cheaper via an upgrade instead of screwing them over like last of us part 1. Good on you Naughty Dog.

Still haven’t bought TLOU1 remake and it’s laughable it’s more than this now (for current owners)

I picked this up for £7.99 in 2022 brand new from smyths. Looks to be one of the best buys i have done considering now the price is around £19.99 since the series come out and now can also get the ps5 upgrade for £10. I bet people are going to buy the ps4 copy as we speak so they just pay the upgrade fee as im sure they are going to release the ps5 disc for a rediculous price.

This will no doubt bump up the price of the last of us part 2 physical copies - probably a good idea to shop around before retailers capitalise!

£10 upgrade path? Nice one. I love the series (even though it can be hellish being put through the wringer so many times), so a cheap way to experience it again with a fresh lick of paint is great news. Now, where did I put my tranquillizers for the rougher parts...
