The original base game of Doki Doki Literature Club is free to download on Steam. You have options to pay for a premium version if you want to help out the developers.
Being new to Steam myself, this was a nice surprise to find (it may be common knowledge, but I couldn't find anything on HUKD). Good reports of compatibility with Steam deck.
If you haven't played the game before, I'd recommend going in with as little knowledge as you can, but be aware that the game contains sensitive content and horror themes.
