Possibility of deal for late Dec/early Jan last-minute holiday?

Hello,

What are the chances of a last-minute deal on a flight + hotel package after Christmas? Looking for a few days of winter sun for a family of 4 and are flexible between 26th and 8th Jan incl.

  • Will consider self-catered, half, full or all incl
  • 5-7 days, somewhere warm/hot. I'm thinking Canary Islands, Southern Spain/Portugal, Morocco, etc
  • 2 adults, 2 kids (8 & 6)
  • Budget around £1500
  • Gatwick, Heathrow (or Bristol) airport departure
  • Flexible on leaving at a days notice anytime after 25th Dec.

Is looking now too early? I was hoping tui, tcook, or other travel agencies would have a few spare places they haven't sold by Christmas day and were therefore heavily discounting those spaces.

We don't normally travel over this period, hence why I'm asking for tips, but with our School not going back until Tuesday 9th (Monday is inset), it gives us an opportunity to get some winter sun.

Apart from the usual travel agents websites, are there any other websites to keep an eye on? And should I leave it until 25th or 26th to start looking? Advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone for the responses. And to for suggesting easyjet holidays. There is a tempting offer for 7 nights in Malta, which looks decent weather wise and seems to tick all the other boxes.

There's some great prices on flights to Faro from north east, presumably London airports will be even cheaper. Accomodation seems super cheap too possibly because it's out of season. I've opted for Porto, although cooler, I paid £244 for 2 adults and 2 children flights, and booked accomodation for 5 nights through a well Known website for circa £400. (edited)

Not over warm in Spain or portugal, canaries best bet. (edited)

Around 12c-15c in Jan for Spain / Portugal. I've even been to the canaries in January and it rained every day and maximum temp was 18c

Think we were a bit unlucky as can also be sunny and low 20s
I certainly wouldn't go to Portugal or Spain in early January expecting warm / hot and sunny. The pools will be baltic

I went to Tenerife in March once. Weather was well into mid 20s all week with no rain, but it was sunny each day.

Pools were still very cool to get into even mid March.

If you swam about for 30mins or so you started to really feel the cold.
So just don't be expecting a brilliant pool experience.
