Usually 3 PAYG + bundle, typically via Amazon-shifted package, although may be too late to sort Amazon if leaving tomorrow. Must be activated prior to leaving UK.
The 3sim was good for me. Else you could use an esim if your device is suitable. I use alosim myself and you can get quite a reduction on credit if you look, though I have not used it in the USA I have used it in other countries and works well

Depends how much data do you need?
Do you have phone with eSim? I was using Tello a few months ago as eSim - everything was perfect and cheaper than Three PayG.
Also consider just using free wifi (with a VPN) if you can get away with it. Download offline google maps if you need them for navigation.
