ABOUT THIS GAME

Portal: Revolution is a fan-made mod for Portal 2 which plays before the events of Portal 2 in the dead and decaying Aperture facility.

Over 40 new puzzles
The campaign contains 40 brand new puzzles making use of new test elements and presents existing mechanics in a new way not seen in Portal 2.

Resurrected "Pneumatic Diversity Vent" element
New laser cube variant
Over 15 puzzles using only the blue Portal-Gun

Difficulty
Portal: Revolutions puzzle difficulty starts where Portal 2 stops, but fear not. All new mechanics and advanced portal tricks are taught to you. We have ensured through rigorous playtesting that every player can solve the puzzles. Although very few chambers require portals to be fired mid-air, no puzzles require advanced tricky movement.

Depending on your experience with Portal 2 mechanics, you can expect about 5 to 7 hours of playtime.

Story

Set inbetween Portal and Portal 2, Portal: Revolution tells a brand new story using new characters. You play as a test subject who is awoken by a personality sphere called Stirling and join his mission to find a powerful device capable of restoring Aperture to its former glory.

ENGINE

Portal: Revolution uses a modified version of Portal 2: Community Edition's engine, which is a custom version of the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Source Engine branch using licensed source code provided by Valve Software.

This allowed us to introduce many mechanics and improvements to the engine to create an experience which would be impossible in Portal 2.

    Honestly, you need to! Both Portal and Portal 2 are timeless classics. They're also the only games I've ever played through a second or third time (and I've been gaming since the 70s!) In particular, Portal 2's co-op mode is seriously great fun and will have you in hysterics, even if you don't normally play multiplayer.

    Plus, both are currently dirt cheap (you'll get both for under £2 total) and there's also a few really great fan mods like this that you'll also likely love.

    I think if they are significant enough to be recognised as separate games to the game it is modding, then I think it should be fine. Obviously mods for different textures etc. should not be allowed because then it would just get flooded with nonsense that no one cares about. But this is a whole new experience with 8 hours of gameplay, it deserves to be on here imo. (edited)

    Official steam community maps usually automatically appear in the game. I think they are listed under community play or something like that.

    Portal 1 and 2 are masterpieces, don't let the lowly price of it fool you. . an Exceptional game.
    Story, narration and gameplay tick all the boxes.
    I couldnt recommend this game more, especially with the mod here

    I think Portal 1 and 2 are contenders for the title "perfect game". Masterfully done and nothing like them. They're so, so good.

    Yep, I’m utterly jealous of anyone that says they haven’t played them.
    I know there can’t be many that don’t know but can totally recommend the Talos Principle 1 & 2. They are my next favourite puzzle games after Portal.

    I swear this is true, yesterday morning, whilst waiting for bus,,I wrote the cake was a lie,
    on the frozen bus stop in the frost. Then last night steam told be revolution was available, I did not even know about revolution, weird

    Portal 2 has Stephen merchant voice one of the characters and it's so funny. But besides that it's a great game too

    I don't have Portal 2 on Steam but do on disc for XBOX back from when it first came out nearly 13 years ago...and absolutely LOVED it, but it's only 89p on Steam so definitely worth buying again just to get this I reckon :-) (edited)

    Sat down to play this last night in the steam deck. The controls don't work!

    I downloaded a community controller mapping that emulated a mouse but it juddered.

    Looks cool though.

    I loved these games on ps3. I currently own a ps5 and have no way to play them. Really tempted to get a ps3 just for these and gta4.
