Mobile company sent items to friends address

Good evening. A friend of mine spoke to me today about a mobile network who sent out things he never ordered. Basically he took out a sim contract and it came with a free set of headphones.

Rather than receiving the headphones he has received 3 smartphones and an android watch delivered and tracked by the courier

Has this ever happened to anyone before? Thought I would ask here as I don’t know myself. I don’t think he wants to keep the items and there’s no emails or documents saying he was being sent those items. I would just assume he contacts them and arranges for the courier to take them back but can he technically keep the items? Would the network try and charge him for receiving the items?

Thanks

It reminds me of a similar post on here about towels - (Christies) that company threatened legal action if the items weren't returned. I guess it's basically a question of morals as the company appears to have sent the items in error. Does one waste their own time to correct a faceless corporations failings?

Totally different situation. That guy input clicks on the website which allowed an obscene amount of free items on checkout (was only supposed to be one feee item).

I claimed a free power bank and speaker via a code I got with a Nokia Lumia deal. It never seemed to redeem the code and gave me an error so I tried several times to redeem but each time it gave an error so I gave up. Fast forward a couple of weeks and a box full of speakers and power banks turned up.

Update: he’s contacted the network and they have reduced the price of the contract for the inconvenience and I believe they’re sending someone out to collect the items

you can probably guess which items went to charity, and which he sold. (and which he “definitely didn’t keep”)

Section 3 shows you dont have to pay anything unless you asked for the items.

Section 2 shows they are commiting a crime if they threaten legal action.

They are not yours... Write to them and say xyz has been delivered in error, you have 14 to collect them...

... and you're charging storage fees in the meantime.

First check is are the being charged for?

If not and they were not ordered or requested then they are unsolicited goods that can be kept.
