Co-op rewards are changing

From 24/01/2024 you will no longer earn 2p for every pound you spend on co-op own brand products

Instead you will get exclusive member prices across an even bigger range of own brand and branded products

You can still spend or donate any rewards you've earned until 31/12/2024

You can still choose a cause each year to get a share of their £4 million local community fund

The Co-op is set to scrap its 2p for every £1 spent rewards scheme in favour of a “significantly increased” number of member-only prices and deals across the business.

Retail Week understands that from January 24, instead of customers receiving rewards from purchases made at The Co-op on branded food purchases, members will instead “benefit from price reductions on branded as well as own-brand foods for the first time,” and receive two personalised offers every week.

A spokeswoman for the c-store specialist said its analysis showed that “member pricing is financially more rewarding [to the customer] than the rewards available via the previous mechanism.”

Member pricing is key to The Co-op’s revitalisation strategy

The new offers being made available to Co-op food customers will also be available to insurance, funeralcare and legal services customers.

Shoppers with existing rewards pots will have until December 31, 2024 to either spend their rewards with The Co-op or chose to donate them to local causes.

The Co-op insists the changes to the rewards scheme “won’t change our commitment to supporting local communities.” The retailer said it would continue to do that through its £3m dedicated Community Partnership Fund.

Co-op Group chief executive Shirine Khoury-Haq has made revamping the brand’s membership scheme a central tenet of her strategy for reviving the ailing business. She also outlined plans to grow The Co-op’s active membership to over 5 million in the next five years.

So they’re basically boosting the prices and then replacing the normal prices with “Exclusive Member prices”

What annoys me more, is that there are different areas, my card is Heart of England, yet I cannot use the co-op which is just 2 miles down the road, to get any of the benefits. I opened this card when we had a local store, which like lots of others have closed, and as you say can we ask for our £1 back ???

Their customer services don't respond when you report a problem with the app. Not when I tried a few weeks back. No response at all from them. Maybe if enough people complained we might have a chance. Imagine how many £££s they would have to give back...

The Co-op has always been a rip-off in my opinion.

Yep. Waitrose prices, for Iceland quality.

Just a standard loyalty card now

Rather have the reward scheme, may not always want the other items, so won't bother going as often after 24/1/24.

This is just a sign of the times. Market men looking to rake in more money. Off to Tescos now.
It’s cheaper with more choice anyway.

Disappointed in the Co-op, but I'm guessing they're feeling the pinch like a lot of businesses are at the moment.

I just saw this when I went to open the app now. I find it all very disappointing. It takes how long to earn a pittance back, now they are taking it away. I will not be shopping as much. It's convenient for me that's the main reason. Oh well off I trot back to Tesco. Thank you Co-op. A great way to treat your loyal customers who even paid £1 to join. What supermarket even does that? Will we getting our £1 back since the terms will have changed..? Rant over...I feel surprising better now hehe..

Does anyone know if the app deals work at self checkout? I went the other day and it didn't deduct my £1 voucher etc

Yea should work on self service tills, some of the old tills make you click membership card and then you scan it

I was like that earned maybe two pounds lol. The cashier didn't even mention the £1 when asking to join till I queried the receipt.

I am fuming I had nearly 20 pounds and just went to check now and its dropped down all by itself to £16.42. I accumulated lots since they allowed you to link it onto uber eats. Never had to contact co op before..aaarggg
