Can I buy a dimmer and put the dimmer grid in another faceplate?

I have a nickel faceplate dimmer, but I need to replace the dimmer module/grid. The reason I need to replace it is because the dimmer I have is a leading edge, and I need to replace it with a trailing edge. Screwfix have a trailing/leading automatic detection dimmer in stock, but the dimmer I want in black nickel isn't in stock in my local area. So I'm thinking I can just buy the white dimmer and pop the grid out of it and put it in my nickel dimmer faceplate? Thank you.
