Window leaking

4286076_1.jpgGood morning

I have woken up today with the corner of my window sill went along the wall. Does anyone know why this would have suddenly happened please. The room hasn't been exactly how it is for a few years so I haven't disturbed anything myself.

Thank you

J

I would check your outside window sills, if they're made from brick you might need them re-pointed and also check the silicone seal around the window frame. We had something similar when we had our windows replaced a few years ago, our external window sills are made from brick laid flat. When the old windows were removed the pointing or whatever was damaged causing water to pool and collect where it wasn't supposed to, it was being wicked up by the fresh plaster causing exactly the same problem in your picture. The recent cold weather could have caused damage, freezing, thawing etc causing something to give.

Were there strong winds and heavy rain overnight in your area? (edited)

No worse than there has been in the past 😔

Rain can blow in between the cill and window frame, pump silicone in there each side. Is the cill silconed onto the frame? Some outfits just screw it on.

That plaster looks new as does the white filler - the filler whilst wet will seep into the plaster until dry.

Hello. Neither one is new. It's just bare plaster.

Just an update. I put caps on the ends of the window sill and it has stopped the wet. Thanks to everyone who commented. (edited)
