Brit Awards Nominations - Artist of the year

Arlo Parks
Central Cee
Dave
Dua Lipa
Fred again..
J Hus
Jessie Ware
Little Simz
Olivia Dean
Raye

I may just be old now but I wanted to gauge the general opinion of these named artists. In particular I want to know, do you actually know who any of these people are or know any of their material? I'm drawing a blank on any of them.

Used to love the Brit Awards night.

Heard of all of them and I'm 62 so bugger knows how old some of you are Olivia Dean is going places, first saw her on youtube about 18 months ago, she did a gig at Glastonbury this year and won the BBC Introducing Artist of the Year award for 2023

Ha! Yeah, 49 here and i've heard of all of them too. Not much interest in many of them but hey Raye will likely win it.

    "EVERYONE knows someone named Dave"

I really hope that is his album title.

I know Dua Lipa, because I seen her on the tonight show with jimmy fallon

and Raye, because of Jools Holland.

but I wouldn’t be able to name a song by them .

    I listen to 50s 60s 70s music

I haven't watched Jools Holland in years, was a regular viewer. Wasn't aware it was still going to be honest.

I've been on a 50's kick recently, listening to old doo-wop albums/artists. (edited)

He's one that I have heard of. Was going to see him last year thinking I'm up with the kids but appears the gigs were full of the middle aged anyway.

I've never heard of any of them. That said, I don't really follow popular music

Ok not just me then. It's a strange one. there has always been decades of music that even if you weren't a follower of popular music, you would relatively know what songs/artists are around.

Oh well, it will all be A.I. soon anyway.

Blur up for Album of the year and group of the year is bizarre as well.

I must also add, if anyone does know any of the above artists/material and have recommendations to listen to, then I'm open to do so. (edited)

Bout half n half for me.. the Brits nowadays seems to be more about if the women can out do the men rather than the music.. best probably leaving the Brits to the young'uns

Never heard of any of them and being an old man, it's just how it should be. We laughed at our parents tastes and now they laugh at ours - cycle of life.

P.S. I'm so glad I don't have to like them - I'm sure they are absolute droll

You have obviously stopped listening to current music, the nominated artists will be well known by listeners to Radio 1, Radio 6 etc and are the bands headlining festivals this summer.
Did you prefer it when Annie Lennox was nominated every year whether she made a record or not?

No Alison Moyet this year either

Heard of 2 of them, but couldn't name anything any of them have done, though I've probably unknowingly heard them all on the endless loop of terrible noise at the gym.
