Multi entry Schengen visa tips

Hello all,

What's the best way to apply for a multi entry Visa for Europe?

We don't have any plans yet where we will travel but our understanding is we need to show hotel booking and flight tickets in advance when we apply for a visa.

May I ask: what is the best way to proceed with this?

Do we book fully refundable tickets (for example with easyjet) and hotel bookings with full refundable options with booking.com and then apply for visa to get multiple entry?

Once we get the multi entry Visa...can we cancel the flight tickets and hotel booking and plan some other locations once we get the visa? Is that allowed?

FYI: I don't have a British passport.

You should apply to the country you plan to visit as going through another will make things difficult for future applications; yes, you can cancel the bookings later. There is also no guarantee you will get multi year multiple entry, especially if you have never applied before. Best way to get it would be through your employer, especially if they are a big company (obviously, this will be possible only if you travel for work). Lastly, blindly follow the instructions on the VFS site for documentation even if it doesn't make sense - most of your questions will be answered there so look there first.

Apply a few months before actual travel as appointments are very difficult to get with VFS. And consider researching on a dedicated travel / expat forum. (edited)

Doesn't it also depend on what passport you're travelling on?

And don't you need evidence of your finances? Bank statements/payslips etc?

That is all sorted. I have all the evidence to show the finances as well.

Pretty impossible to be 100% sure as the system is not in place yet

But it is a little odd that early indicators say you will need the address of the place you are staying for your first day or night but then that you shouldn't book anything until you have the ees / etias in place

Edit maybe you're someone that needs a visa for Europe and I was presuming a UK passport holder (edited)

That's why I mentioned the passport he/she is travelling on.
