An excellent resource for learner drivers. For car tests, it currently has a question bank of 746 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) & 62 Hazard Perception clips. Scroll down for features and national availability for non-Somerset residents.

Theory Test Pro normally costs £7 (one week), £10 (3 months), £20 (12 months). A free individual learner trial is available. wil.zendesk.com/hc/…st- .

Since the theory test must be done on a desktop screen with a mouse, it is far better to practise Hazard Perception clips on a tool like Theory Test Pro (since it closely replicates test conditions), rather than on a smartphone/tablet app with your fingers.

ANNOUNCEMENT (n-somerset.gov.uk/new…ers )

North Somerset residents who are learning to drive can now practise for their driving theory test through their local library.

North Somerset Library Service has added Theory Test Pro to its growing list of internet services that its members can use for free. This service provides a realistic online simulation of the UK's driving theory test, allowing learner drivers to test their knowledge against the entire official test question bank, practise with hazard perception video clips, and read-up on an online version of the Highway Code.

To use Theory Test Pro for free, members can pop in to any North Somerset library. Alternatively, they can access the tool from outside of the library using their library card, by visiting the Theory Test Pro website: northsomerset.theorytestpro.co.uk.

Councillor Mike Solomon, North Somerset Council’s executive member for culture and leisure, said: “This is a superb free resource that our libraries are now offering to members. I’d urge people to take advantage of this excellent tool.”

Henry Dillon, Marketing Director of Well Informed Limited, the company which developed Theory Test Pro, said: “I’m very happy that members of North Somerset Libraries will now have free access to Theory Test Pro. Studying is a must for the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency’s driving theory test, and Theory Test Pro offers everything that you’d get from a CD-ROM with none of the hassle.”

North Somerset residents can easily sign up for a library membership by visiting their local library, or joining online at www.librarieswest.org.uk. More information on libraries is available at n-somerset.gov.uk/lib…ies.

FAQs (wil.zendesk.com/hc/…AQs )

    This is awesome... thanks!

Live no where near Somerset but without your post wouldn't have known it was available where I live also. You're also able to translate the questions into different languages which is a huge plus for those where English may not be a first language.

That’s the correct answer for North Somerset

Any way to get it free if your area isn't included?

Only other way to get it free is to visit the Theory Test Pro website and sign up for a free student trial (student = learner driver, not uni student) - apparently no card details required. Doesn't say how long the trial is.

But this is such a valuable resource to have that I would lobby your library to subscribe to them - just drop them a quick email with subject 'FAO Decision-Makers - Theory Test Pro' requesting the service to help you and others learn to drive, that 150 other Councils in the country have this, and that you've been recommended it by others. Can email any of your Councillors too, they should forward it to the relevant Portfolio Holder. (edited)

Seems to be available in nearly all the country apart from Devon. Typical
    JackCrusher's avatar
Yes just noticed that! Typical for our area and yet doesn’t surprise me. Think I may have to fire off an email to encourage them to join the rest of the nation

North Somerset theory test questions all seem to begin "You see another tractor..."

Brilliant! Just used the approprite library link for my town and registered - my daughter is learning to drive so will be very handy for her

It has been been free for ages at least in Southampton and recommended many people to use it and also life in the UK

Probably they are desperate to get more members in those libraries.
    freebiehunter's avatar
Doubt it as you only need a virtual library card and no visit to a library

Are there any apps that do something similar?
  16. CurvedSlightly's avatar
You shouldn't be learning the answers, read the highway code and the Traffic Signs book and the answers will be easy.

    BIG SURPRISE!
    Not in Norn Iron!
Is that cos we're devolved? Ah, nope. Wales and Scotland are there too.
Is that cos we don't have a sitting assembly? Probs!
Shafted again, why are we surprised?
    Oh wait, we're not!

I'd love to see what they're like now, I did mine early doors, about 1997, it was a sheet of A4 and a pencil in a rented office, 35 multiple choice, I did it in 9 minutes and when I got my results I was amazed I got one wrong!

So anyway, can you sign up for this free, as like via a practice portal or anything? I'll look tomorrow if no one knows.

4 years ago I got free access through my local library, it's a great resource for learners.
