I never understood why collection is free, dropping at a delivery office is free, but dropping at the post office cost more. (The post office and delivery office in porthcawl are very near each other)
    Phil452's avatar
Because the post office is a separate company, if they collect it they don't have to pay a fee to the post office.

Wouldn't use these clowns if you paid me.

Best service from all the competition in my case. Never ever lost anything for me and that includes normal letters.

I used to buy my lottery ticket from the post office. Now I dont want them to have my money. I walk to the other shop.

Royal mail and post office are 2 separate companies

This has been solid for me since I started using it. Can book up until midnight for collection the next day. Not had a missed collection yet.

Note, they don't weight it. So if you send an item and they buyer says they hadn't got it , your pretty much out of luck
    fctilidie's avatar
You realise all buyers have 100% feedback? You can’t leave a buyer bad feedback. So anyone with less than 100% has got that from selling. You could have a regular scammer with 100% feedback, they might have strikes on the account for unpaid items etc, but you can’t see that. This is something people don’t always understand.

I waited in for ages once and they never came, had to drive to local post office. Two hours after I got home they turned up to collect. (edited)

This service is great. much better than evri and basically cheaper. Even if they started charging 60p again, it would still be cheaper and faster than evri

Use 24/48 tracked, they prioritise that service.
    GreenaGiant's avatar
I'd happily pay 60p not to deal with Evri. Every single encounter I've had with that company, and Hermes, was so stressful. To the extent that when buying stuff online I bother to check which courier they use and if it's Evri I go elsewhere. Maybe it's different elsewhere but here it's a nightmare.

How does proof of posting work with this? Does the postman provide a proof of posting slip after collecting?

Been told here that RM insurance claims have no chance without proof of posting.

(The RM app has a proof of posting function where you scan the postage barcode and apparently that's sufficient, according to the RM terms)
    dunfiedoughball's avatar
All posties carry a PDA and scan/register/photograph .Any parcels or special deliveries they drop off/pick up
  9. Kelly_x's avatar
I tried this and had 3 failed collections as they didn't turn up. So ended up dropping it at the post office. Hoping others have a better experience than me

They offer it and have been on click and drop since mid last year but the delivery drivers that collect don't want no part of it. When using click and drop if you already have an item booked for collection you can pass the driver any additional you may have according to their site (sounds good for a businesses that may get overnight orders) but yeah constantly refuse them at the door, if they show up in the first place. Stopped using them completely.

Used to hate Hermes. Surprisingly I have less going wrong with Evri these days and allot of the major retailers use them for their deliveries. (edited)

I've had this a few times now, it's usually new posties who don't know they are meant to take them as like you say C&D tells you to hand over any extra labels you create to the postie when they come for the arranged collection. They should do an acceptance scan on the extra's. Hard to try and tell the postie they should take them without seeming like a d**k though. Most have figured it out now so i still use it almost daily.

Awful service, several times Amazon have arranged for a package to be collected by them and they just haven't turned up and I've had to reschedule the next day. Also the last two packages I sent via eBay (a phone and headphones) have gone walkabout despite using the correct dimensions, packaging type, weight and payment. Then again DHL left three mobile phones outside a neighbours house so not like they're any better. (edited)

Looking to send a 110 cm length, 5 Kg parcel, any suggestions?
RoyalMail dont provide service for bigger dimension parcels
    asif031's avatar
Try Parcel Monkey or Parcel2Go for larger or heavier items
  13. xyz1000's avatar
For small parcels is there anything cheaper than RM @ £3.50
    Badger1980's avatar
If you book through click and drop its £2.99 and they will pick it up and bring a label if you book through your account(free just sign up) 52122528-OIT6i.jpg52122528-0o6al.jpg

Thought it has been like this for a while? Basically they charge you the same for drop off and collection.
    GOODSTUFF's avatar
its always been a limited time sort of promo, except that they always extend it. Its been like this for a year now I think
  15. danbailey11's avatar
Make sure you select the correct size though! Nothing more annoying than turning up to a house to collect a small 0.5kg parcel only to discover it's twice the size of my bag!!
    t3r4's avatar
I honestly don't think this feeds through to the on the ground posties properly. I put in a Medium 5kg parcel and they still sent the walk round to pick it up? And even if I book several parcels they still send just the on-foot postie...

And there seems to be no proper process for getting the van to come. My postie has to give me the label, then call on their mobile the van driver to come by and get the item later on? Seems just like it's not set up properly...

I think it's a great service but I wish for your sake they'd actually fix the way it works. (edited)
  16. Ryan_West1's avatar
I used it recently the postie collected it .
No parking , no waiting in line happy days !
    GregorskyDeals's avatar
However waiting possibly all day at home not knowing when and if they show up 😜
  17. koolishy67's avatar
Great service cheaper than post office
    miketg89's avatar
It is cheaper than the PO because RM pay them to accept it...which helps to support a local business and therefore supports local jobs, the high street and community
  18. GregorskyDeals's avatar
Only if they show up, fed up with their poor service. Every time it's a roulette game. The same goes for their tracking service, which by today's standards shouldn't even be called tracking.
    Retro_Mike's avatar
Yep had the exact same experience. Using the app was great, until the next day when the postie never turned up. Has happened 3 times so I don't use the service any more. I think they only bother coming if they have post to drop off at the same time.
  19. Tommyboy7's avatar
This service has been a godsend to me over the past year or so, saved me countless trips to the post office (I live Semi-Rural). I use Tracked 24/48 most of the time a never had an issue.

Not sure my postie is keen on the collection service though, although I believe it’s a necessity nowadays if RM want to keep up with the couriers.

RM going downhill for me, never seem to be equipped for collections, I’ve haven’t had a damaged parcel or lost one for a long time but they just never seem to turn up for the collections 📉
    stedaman's avatar
seems u got unlucky and have poor RM workers in your area. Complain to RM about it. They are providing the service and not doing it, so it can be sorted. (edited)
  22. bozo007's avatar
Seems to be a permanent offer now. I have been using it for quite some time.

For us,it’s god send. Our place is pretty secluded from the main thoroughfare and we can safely leave parcels out for our wonderful postie. All we do is put them in a clear recycling bag, label it clearly and she takes it on her round. No queuing or taking time off work etc.
If you live in a higher crime area, you obviously wouldn’t be so lucky.
  24. Rhys0908's avatar
I guess it's because I'm disabled and have a sign on my front door explaining that but my post lady is awesome, delivers alot and always collects returns.
  25. 0zz0's avatar
Used this service a couple of days ago and won't bother again. Nobody showed on the first day, then a sorry email was sent in the evening. Rescheduled for the day after and same story again. Went to the post office and sent the package myself. Another sorry email in the evening. Today the postman delivered the labels. 🤦🏼🤡

what I've noticed is that parcels get delivered a day late compared to going into a post office. For example, next day special delivery collected on monday but delivered wednesday.
    tissot22's avatar
I think you can claim your money back on special delivery if it is late
  29. Rhys0908's avatar
Literally just used this yesterday, booked a collection for Friday but the royal mail website definitely said it ran until midnight last night. Parcel collection has been free for a long time but it appears to run for a few months and then get extended..
  30. Smiles20's avatar
Have used this service few times but postie, doesn't seem keen on collecting returns. Easier than waiting in line, especially if parcel a larger size.

My ebay items that I posted on the 25th (via tracked 24) are apparently due to be delivered today, only 8 days later. Great service (edited)

I was wondering what on earth is going on with post
The amount of people complaining FML

I'll be so sad when they (finally) stop this free collect. The Post Office charges more. And my printer is broken so can't print my own postage and take to post office 🥴

I am housebound so it’s a great service for me. I pay for labels which I don’t have to print as they are supplied by Royal Mail on collection of my items. They are sent by Royal Mail 24 or 48 which are tracked all the way on their Royal Mail app. A truly excellent service which I would definitely recommend. 💯
  38. CaptainSlog's avatar
    Absolutely perfect for me.
My friendly postman suggested I leave parcels outside in a safe place for him to collect. I put them out at 8am and he collects within the hour without fail. Saves us both time. Faultless service.
  39. greendayadam's avatar
Bit of a joke that they're constantly running this promotion, as they charge their business online account holders for their collections
    Badger1980's avatar
Yet its free with this endless promotion if you have a click and drop business account + they will bring the labels free of charge. As a small business I found the collection fee out of the question being over £1000 a year and all payable in 1 go. Would be curious to see the maths when the cost of labels and ink + time it takes are taken into consideration. I know its free if you spend over £17k but at the stage you are sending a lot of items anyway
