  • PizzaExpress is giving their epic pizza away for free to diners wearing a black and white striped top, in celebration of National Pizza Day, this Friday (9 January).
  • In a nod to the pizzeria brand's iconic striped attire, PizzaExpress is encouraging diners to "earn their stripes" by embracing its famous monochrome aesthetic.
  • Those who show up sharing their love for the brand will be rewarded with their choice of a free Classic, vegan or gluten-free Margherita pizza.
  • To claim their cheesy-goodness, customers simply need to arrive in their stripey top at any PizzaExpress, but you'll need to be quick as there's just over 14,000 to claim before 4pm on Friday 9th February 2024.
  • Simply get there early, order a Margherita pizza, and the pizzeria team will do the rest.

Paula MacKenzie, CEO at PizzaExpress, said: “This National Pizza Day sees us pay homage to our incredible pizza chefs, through celebrating our iconic black and white stripes. Stripes have played a huge part in our identity, dating back to 1965, so don your stripes and celebrate National Pizza Day with the original Margherita pizza, for free!”

I'm thinking plain black T + masking tape.
Easy to de-stripe in the bogs before I leave.

I'd make crazy things up and link to a website that doesn't mention them too, all sorts of potential fun there. You also have to wear a kipper fish as a tie, confirmed in various news sources.

So does it include takeaway as long as you order in person?
  20. jayzone1998's avatar
Is this like 40 pizzas per restaurant or will they actually keep track of the entire 14000
    Index's avatar
Probably limited to a certain amount per a restaurant. Makes more sense

In your hypothetical example one person wearing a t-shirt and not getting a free pizza can only happen if 14,000 people had already worn a t-shirt and got a free pizza. Which means it doesn't seem that stupid.

I haven’t got a black and white striped top. I think I got rid of it. It would cost me more than a price of a pizza to buy one
  25. jrobinson909's avatar
Just got it at Manchester First Street, cheers! It's Margherita only, no extra toppings and takeaway not possible though

Had in Macclesfield, thanks op. Restaurant was virtually empty and it was nearly 3pm and I only had the 10th token!

The website doesn't have a scroll bar. It's a nightmare to navigate, I hate having to use the wheel on my mouse. I'd rather pay for a pizza and have toppings too.
  30. maddogb's avatar
do these guys do a vegan gluten free pizza?
    Blake_Gaggles's avatar
I assume so. All the flour they use is Gluten free so great if allergies. Well done you, I tried to be vegan and GF and to be honest If I continued I would have wound up dead.

Only 40 tokens per restaurant available
    jayzone1998's avatar
I wonder if you have to use your token straight away or can visit later. E.g. Get the token at 12pm and use it at 3pm

I'm assuming navy blue and white stripe will be accepted
    Haircut_100's avatar
The T&Cs specifically mention “black and white stripes”. But then again they mention wearing a t-shirt but someone in their image for the promo is wearing a striped dress so who knows how specific they’ll actually be.
