As someone who used VX Ace (the one after XP), and then MV, you should really consider getting the latest MZ program. XP is extremely outdated, and finding decent assets for it will prove difficult.

With MZ, you can use some of MV's assets as well, so there are plenty around, but not only that, you can port MZ games far easier to mobiles with touch screen capability. It is easier to add plugins to MZ with cool effects like mini maps and quest logs.

Now... don't expect to be able to jump in to making awesome games with these programs. It takes literally months of work to get used to how eventing and mapping works. Don't get into these programs expecting to be able to make great games in a month to sell online. That isn't happening. And if you did want to do that, you'd have to create most of your assets from scratch.

There is a steep learning curve. However, if you do what I did, and work as a team with children you know, it becomes a really fun activity in your spare time. I'm close to finishing a game that we have been working on for years, and it taught the kids so much. It will never get released to the public, but we don't care about that. It has been more about the journey. (edited)

Glad someone has said this. Way too many people go into RPGM thinking it’ll churn out a game for you in a couple of hours. I tinker with it from time to time now mainly to try and work out new mechanics but it was a huge eye-opener when I first got into it and I had no idea how long it would take just to get a semi-decent small game world constructed.

Just in time for it turning 20 years old! I remember when it came out.

That said if you actually want to make a game, I would recommend something slightly more modern lol

I was thinking that the XP must be referring to Windows XP.

52189995-8vOTw.jpgit shows as £2.09 in my steam account (the app running in the corner of windows). Can I be bothered to reset my password again just to add this.....or crop the screenshot:) (edited)

Shows as 2.09 until you click on it and then is available to add for free.

Nice one. Added to my account and I'll soon be publishing the next big rival to Final Fantasy. (edited)

You'll do fine, more true to the roots than the current games!

Arguably plenty of game developers without experience or knowledge. They’re making rubbish games. Some still in alpha/beta for years on end. Some even charge people to be beta testers. Some just release unfinished games and charge for “DLC” so, yeah.

i always wanted to rewrite FF7 and replace shinra with "the most moral army and people in the world"
and avalanche with "ham" and as

i would focus on all the npcs saying things like "shinra has the right to defend itself"
"criticism of shinra is the magic bad word that ends all conversations"

Anyone used this recently? Used to be great back in the day - wondering if it's been massively updated or anything?

I remember playing around with RPG Maker 2000 as a kid, only to find out how hard it actually is to build a playable map! (edited)
