Ps5 has stopped reading discs.

I bought the disc model in October 2021 and just out of the blue it has stopped reading discs. My discs are not dirty and inserted the correct way. I keep my PS5 vertical.

I mainly play ps plus and extra games but have left a disc in the tray just like I normally do.

I have owned many consoles and this is the first major problem I have encountered. Out of warranty now but wondered if anyone else who has had the problem can estimate how much a repair from Sony would cost? Or just wait it out for the Pro model?

TIA

Laser is gone. Maybe you could try consumer law as should last a lot longer than 2.5 years

If you believe a component (disc reader?) is defective and has failed prematurely:
approach the trader that sold you the prematurely busted rubbish and present your Consumer Rights Act claim for repair / replacement / compensation.
    No warranty required.
Up to 6 years from receipt to present your claim, unless you live in a country that shafts its citizens via restricting shorter claim period - such as Scotland.

just wait it out for the Pro model
implies a CRA claim related to your busted PS5 could be the ideal solution.

Try an optical disc drive lens cleaner.
If that doesn’t work your drive may need replacing. Plenty of YT tutorials on how to do it.

Could be dust on the laser?

The company that Cex uses for repairs charges £99, not sure what Sony out of warranty charges are

Just to add I have tried both Ps4 and Ps5 discs and get the same problem.

You've got a couple of option, open the console try cleaning the laser lense see if that works. I'm guessing it's accepting the disc, as in sucking it in via the rollers? Just sometimes they get dirty and can't grip the discs.
If it is your laser what knackered you'll have to get a new one, but you'll need to keep your original logic board, that's the tiny little board linked to the disc drive, its got a code/key that'll only work on your PS5, so don't bin that

Very unlucky, I guess you can still play games digitally. Probably cost a fortune to repair so might be worth just saving up for the pro.
