When i first got a car and didn't know any better i got an MOT done at Kwik Fit and wound up paying £250 for a whole new exhaust with a 3 year guarantee. Next year, still not knowing any better i took it back there and surprisingly i needed a new exhaust again, until i got the paperwork showing the guarantee, then suddenly i didn't need a new exhaust and they "were looking at the wrong car". That's how i realised you should never, ever, go anywhere near Kwik Fit for any reason.

I don't get this at all.

'Esso customers' - what makes an Esso customer, how do Kwik Fit know? Even their T&Cs don't make it clear, in fact it almost seems like it doesn't matter.

Happy to book a fuel saver check, but what proof is needed, do I need a fuel receipt from Esso or something?

Fuel receipt is not needed. Just book the tyre check with KwikFit. Esso is partnering with Kwikfit but fuelling with them is NOT necessary to claim this offer. Hope this helps.

Never trusted this company. Last time I used KF they found so much extra faults that needed to be sorted and was basically ordering me to pay now to get it sorted. Took my vehicle back took it to the manufactures and it spent 2 days for diagnostics. They couldnt find any of the recommendations KF was quoting and gave me no charge for the diagnostic. I wouldn't use them even if mot and service was free

They're just con artists, a trap for new drivers.

KWIK FIT used to do free puncture reairs, I took my car for a slow puncture repair and they issued a report saying that all my shocks were leaking and the car was dangerous to drive, 2 days previous to this my car was MOT'd by Volvo.

If you've got the spare time and can stand firm when they try and scare you into paying for work. And you do all the forms. Then the Michelin tyre pressure gauges are between £10-£20 on eBay and some seem to be well reviewed. Various models. So hot for those lucky to get it.

If the car has a dipstick then it's really easy to add your own oil. Just watch YouTube, use a funnel, gloves (marigolds are great) and even a measuring jug and some paper towels (McDonald's towels are great for checking oil).

Have the car on a level surface and been off for 8 minutes. Add a little oil at a time, say 300ml. It takes very little time, isn't very messy, and everything you need is available in the super market. You will feel good for doing it yourself.

But they give you the oil for free. Why would you want to pay fir your own oil?

Opportunity for Kwik Fit to find faults and create unnecessary work,no one does anything for free these days so beware,There are directors and shareholders to pay as well as the staff these places !!!

Kwik Fit have always had a reputation for telling car owners that they need four new tyres, new brake pads and a new exhaust if you just pop in for a puncture repair!

Find a reputable local independent garage and stay well away from Kwik Fit and their likes.

Someone should set up a business doing basic car maintenance tasks such as oil top up up, coolant top-up, air top up, screen wash and bulb changes. And no, Halfords doesn't count.

Obviously it would have to be done properly and in such a way that people couldn't sue for just any problems that they claim were caused by the maintenance task performed.

This sort of thing should be available in supermarket car parks and retail parks. So many cars need just these basic things, but Joe public is usually unable or unwilling to do them.

It's called interim service. Can be booked online.
Oil , coolant and screen wash top-ups are taught by driving instructors when you leanr to drive and are also asked as part of show me Tell me questions during your exam.

Tyre pressure gauges are less than a five on eBay, paying that for one must be easier than having the hassle of KF suggesting that you need new tyres, an exhaust, and new shocks??
