I have used this one from aliexpress almost daily for over a year and it has never let me down. I use it for fixing broken consoles I buy from eBay.

I bought a handheld one from Aliexpress and it arrived damaged - I have been meaning to get around to ordering a whole new one as they are so cheap.
I do have a silly expensive one, but it's a nightmare to get parts for it (bought through RS components and they no longer stock it). Stick to one of ~£30 models on Aliexpress - there are plenty of spares available and they do seem to be compatible across the different models on sale there.

If you just need hot air then the Chinese 858D's are perfectly fine, and super cheap

Thanks for the replies, mrcaptain, aLV426 and Experiment, appreciate your time and expertise

I'm primarily looking at amazon / at a push ebay, as they have a returns policy and price wise there on par with Ali express if you get stung with import fees.

My under standing was the 858d's were incorrectly wired for fuses and earth (from reviews), and wondered if the 95x range seemed any improvement from 858's ? Any particular brands that stand out as better than the others in the 40-60ish price range . . . (edited)

52278955-riDru.jpgI just checked and its a 959D that I own, again can't fault it, the 3-channel memory for preset temps helps a lot too, regarding the unsafe wiring, well some of the 858D's aren't as well made as some others, so maybe hit & miss if you get a good one or not. (edited)
