There was a lot of them in a rental fleet I used to use regularly. In terms of how they looked and felt by the time they were ready to be removed from the fleet, they were definitely one of the best. Never had any issues with them unlike many of the other brands and models in the fleet which after the 2 year mark it wouldn't be unusual to have to return them or report a long list of problems following the abuse they went through.

In terms of driving the car though, they are rather dull and boring imo. Fuel efficiency is nothing special to write home about. Annoying groany and loud CVT Transmission. Putting your foot down has a long delay before anything happens (Although this definitely improved a little with the more recent models compared to the outgoing Auris that this replaced) and the seats are very uncomfortable to sit in if you're on a longer drive.

In my opinion, Hyundai are a good competitor. They have way more comforts and features as standard on their cars, better gearboxes, better fuel efficiency on both mild hybrid and full hybrids in my experience, and a much more engaging drive with better performance. I would always try to request a Hyundai at the rental desk after finding out how much nicer they were in comparison, and then went on to get my own Hyundai cars (Kona and Ioniq EVs) down the line as a result.

    What like this one .
52404613-fVROD.jpgMy daughter works for Toyota at the Derby factory. Picked this up new from their staff carpark only this Year.
Basically they do two different engine sizes 1.8 and 2.0l, four different specs, and two shapes hatch and estate.
We decided on a 2l GR sport estate. We have covered just under 1000 miles so far and we really like it. It definitely is cheaper fuel wise than our old 2l SD countryman, however it might be because I've only used the eco mode and see how much EV % driving I can get.

Would have thought you'd want to blank the number plate on the pic.

Looking at a Toyota Yaris cross or Corolla estate for my Mum.
Going for a test drive on Wednesday.
I have driven the 2.0L Corolla estate, It’s quite nippy with 196 hp.
Got over 55mpg on the motorway.
Round town was 65mpg, driving like an old lady though.

I would opt for the Excell estate 1.8L.
All the goodies, but I could not justify £1500 extra for the 2.0L.
That would be 3 years worth of fuel for me.

Here are some prices to look at.

Not driven any Corolla, but if you are looking at the estate, the Suzuki version is called the Swace, and is apparently is almost identical apart from a slightly smaller screen, different steering wheel and grill.

Correct. Identical car with different badge slapped on. There’s a few models they share now. Suzuki Across is just a Toyota RAV4 too for example.

To add the Excell has leather interior so that was a big No from the wife as she's vegetarian!
Unlike BMW Mini the cars already come with loads of features, so you don't come away with an options package costing a fortune.
The transition between petrol and electric mode is seamless.
Oh and the hot chocolate is amazing in the showroom .
