Amazon third party not refunding VAT

I claimed a refund from a third party seller on Amazon and the amount I got back excluded VAT. Is this usually the case or can I claim this back? Thanks.

No it's wrong. You've not purchase anything due to the refund, therefore the seller has no VAT to pay or declare. They're just trying to effectively steal your money.

Looks like a Chinese seller. I will raise it with Amazon next.

    Raise a case with Amazon.

Would be unusual circumstance not to have a refund include any VAT originally paid as a consumer (non-VAT-reg entity).
May be more complex if refunded via a foreign marketplace seller & some derivative of Amazon had originally collected & remitted the purchase VAT.

Seller is pulling a fast one…. Or as we know them, thievery.

    Contact Amazon.

I wouldn't rush to judgement so quickly. It is possible Amazon handles the VAT bit, and not the seller. But I do agree it still should have triggered a refund.

Are you able to check how much has actually been refunded to your bank account or credit card account?

I bought some printer ink from a marketplace seller (on Amazon). It didn't work so I returned it.
The refund on Amazon just showed the net (excluding VAT) amount, so I contacted the seller via Amazon message, and they said that they just hit the 'refund' button, no choice about including or excluding VAT, but that Amazon handle the two parts, base amount and VAT amount separately.
Then a few hours later I got an email from Amazon showing the full amount was being refunded, with "Item Refund" and "Item Tax Refund" listed separately. The full refund amount did show up on my credit card account.

Hopefully the same will happen for you.

Refund hasn't come through yet but seller sent me a screenshot with the amount that will be credited. Been in touch with the seller again and he responded saying "the tax is deducted by the platform, we don't have the authority to refund you"

I done a refund yesterday with a third party seller on Amazon and was refunded my full price back including the VAT on it which was separate…maybe get in touch with Amazon as I went through their chat for the refund and did receive an email couple of hours later to say full amount will be refunded back into my account including the VAT.
