How to improve dads wifi?

Current setup is a AC AirCube as router and broadcasts a SSID which works well at one end of the house. Solwise - a powerline solution that broadcasts a different SSID other end of house.

Main issue trying to solve is that when taking wifi calls on devices, as he walks through house, the switching of SSIDs usually interrupts the call.

The house has internal brick walls, and and unable to lay any Ethernet in the house.  Not a big house but quite long, maybe 25-30m.

I am visiting and here for a couple of weeks and looking for a good solution. Contemplating either another AirCube or a mesh product like TP Deco.

Can someone help point me in the right direction on how you would go about solving this? Ideally after a bargain, budget ideally under 300 pounds.  Don’t want to overspend for the requirements.

I would say mesh is the best approach if you want to move within the house while taking calls.

Only thing to consider is do you want wired or wireless backhaul. If you want to maintain speed within the house the best would be either wired connection with powerlines (assume the speeds are good between them, both circuits and the speed rating of the powerline you already have) or wireless backhaul using triband mesh, especially if you need three nodes to go through the house.

Thanks for reply. Will be running some speedtests later today on each SSID. My gut feel was to try and remove the powerline solution as have read a few horror stories. But you’re right, if it’s stable then a node could somehow be back hauled via the existing solwise device that’s in the wall? Will go an inspect how that might work.

My initial plan was a 2 or 3 pack that supports triband and distributed across the house. And unsure if there is any plus to keeping the original AirCube and connecting first node to that directly, other two are wirelessly meshed with no backhaul.

old original Google WiFi mesh units can be picked up used from CEX for little more than £20 per unit, better quality than the cheaper Deco systems and although not WiFi 6 still plenty fast enough at AC1200.

Fast reliable and a great basic Mesh system that also has wired backhaul as an option if you "could" manage to get some Ethernet between them (I have ethernet running externally linking mine)

Wifi6 not required, trying to work out the lower spec tp link models, will look into google mesh.  Prefer first hand as I’m only here for two weeks and want to avoid risk of getting duds/safety of refund

Mesh is about routing traffic around obstacles, probably not that useful in a long thin house. Seamless transition between access points is called roaming.

Roaming has been supported for a long time and it's well worth trying to switch the Solwise to the same SSID to see if it works, as homeplug units go that looks like one of the later models.

The advantage a wi-fi system gives you for roaming is that the access points are all the same model and have been tested together. I don't know what ubiquiti's product testing/naming is like but if the Aircube is recent I'd lean towards picking up another one or something in the same range rather than replacing that with two units of a different brand.

Would a TP-Link powerline adapter work? Extends your wifi and you can clone the existing connection for a seamless wireless network. You can pick them up for around £35-40 (edited)

Will look into this. This is the current powerline solution that’s broadcasting a different ssid.

it’s possible that maybe this can be configured to repeat existing ssid? Will go find a manual for it
