Selling site

We’re moving house and getting rid of a lot of stuff. A lot of it is my late father’s. we’ve managed to get rid of some from Facebook marketplace but not getting very far. Looked on vinted but it mentions postal and this is something we want to avoid. Are there any other free marketplace sites?

The British Heart Foundation will come and remove furniture or other items they can sell in their charity shops, they can also clear a house (though they may charge a fee for that).

We used them to help clear my parents house (in London) after my my mother died. As the furniture was so good they charged nothing.

They also cleared my sisters house (in Scotland) when she died though they did charge a fee. But to be fair they did take everything in the house.

They have many charity shops so see if there is one near you that you can contact.

That could be something to look at if I really can’t get rid of anything

    In the same boat.
You can easily sell tech like a TV on marketplace but less searched items require a national audience and therefore postage. It is an effort but don't expect your buyers to all be local and desperate for old items. You need to consider your target market.

Unfortunately you can’t post a well dresser, rugs and there’s certain things like figurines that I really don’t want to post as I don’t want them to get damaged in transit if needs be we will just Put things in the tip or send them to a charity shop, but we would just like to try and get a little bit of income where possible.

eBay local pickup or carboot sale, also Facebook local group are the best options.

EBay has fees, car boots require your own table and I can’t move the large stuff on my own. We’re already using Facebook marketplace place

Gumtree is a well known free site as well...but make sure you add plenty of photos of everything.

Ebay ....collection only.....although their final value fees reduction doesnt appear to have materialised today

we had some Herman Miller office chairs to sell over the past month (collection only) and I would say interest has come Ebay/Facebook Marketplace/Gumtree in that order...

    Plus ....

1/If you have furniture items in good condition (with firetickets where appropriate) British Heart Foundation and other charities may offer van collections from your late fathers house.

2/ Your local council may work with a local furniture/clothing recycling charity that will collect.
Theyll usually come to the house and see what they want

eg Too Good to Waste in Rhondda Cynon Taff

When I talk about furniture I’m not talking about sofas. I’m talking about units they don’t come with stickers on the wall over 40+ years I’m concerned about eBay just because of the cost of fees that amount up and the rule hidden as such look at gumtree and see what they have.

I'm in the opposite position and from experience I can say it is absolutely a buyer's market. I have stuff in my house which I got for peanuts because I happened to live close enough and have a big enough car to collect. You've got the nail on the head with regards to the delivery charges, the truth is that if there isn't someone within twenty or thirty miles of you who wants said item and can arrange transport, you are going to struggle to sell it. Only other thing I can suggest is getting a local auctioneer in to take a look at a job lot. Don't expect to make a lot of money though.

Don’t really wanna go down the auctioneer route if I have to they will just go in the tip or a charity shop but we just want to try and make some money in memory that I can go towards the new house

Why don't you look for a local auction house that does house clearance type stuff, they'll remove it, put it into lots, sell to national audience. You pay a commission but then they take a lot of the hassle out.

In all honesty I would rather sell them directly or get rid to charity or something than try and negotiate an auction house

You can host an Estate Sale?

If you don't mind people coming in to wander around. People can pay in cash and take it there and then. Post an ad in your local paper and you'll get rid of anything with value as resellers will come.

Vinted is very easy to use - Facebook is the best place to advertise if you dont fancy posting items

It only gave the option for postal not collection on vinted and we’re currently using marketplace but not much happening
