PAC code query. Moving fathers number to my account

Long story short my father would have appear to have dementia.

My mum and me are trying to do simple steps at this time to watch say what cash he has, how much he can withdraw etc.

One issue we have is he keeps locking his phone up with wrong pin number so you need puk code.

I am wondering how I can move his number which I will add is a very special number which finishes 900000 to my account with 3 away from his current 02 one.

Would it be as simple as getting him to get pac code and then moving it into a 3 sim card?

Moving the number to 3 won't be a problem but changing the account name maybe?
I would seriously suggest arranging a LPA before he gets any worse, I've been through this with both my in laws and now my own father. It will help a lot in the future as if he deteriates sorting and arranging any sort of financial or personal matters for him will be very difficult.

    1) Buy a 3 sim deal in your name.
    2) Text the word ' PAC ' to 65075 from your dad's phone.
    3) Once the 3 sim arrives request for your dad's number to be transferred to the (your) 3 sim using this form

And if you already have a contract with 3 and would like the number to be transferred to that account then it's just steps 2 & 3.

    Good luck with everything.

Whatever you do KEEP the contract/PAYG he’s on and get the new SIM activated before doing anything with the PAC code. We ballsed this up with mum and lost her number because of it and it caused chaos because she’s in a similar state to your Dad.

Without wanting to interfere it sounds like you’re at the very start of your journey with your dad if you’re saying he’s maybe got dementia. Since mum got diagnosed the support system around Dementia and Alzheimer’s is amazing (has been for us anyway) so the sooner you get around to this, the better.

As has been mentioned above please do sort out LPA whilst your dad is relatively cogent and if you can afford it, do it with a firm that specialises in them. I tried to do it solo but it was heartbreakingly difficult with mum so ended up being much better to spend a couple of hundred quid on a professional sorting out the admin and meaning that your forgetful parent can’t then forget to send documents back etc.

If you have any questions do ask. Best of wishes on your journey with your dad mate.

Cheers Dan appreciate you taking the time to reply. Feels like starting to deal with a child the way things are going. Appreciate the advice.

Unless he needs his phone secured, (and with his current situation should he be trusted with apps that need security) then why not take the lock off his phone?
Make a second profile on his phone with all his banking apps that he cannot access without you unlocking it.
Get him a prepaid debit card that you can pay into, so he won't suffer so much if scammed

Could you not change his login to a fingerprint or make a record of his pin number?

However, someone appearing to have dementia is a little short of needing to take over their finances. You could explain your concerns to him & go from there. I am assuming he hasn't been to a doctor to have this confirmed so it must be in its very early stages.

I used to often forget PIN number & even more so when I had to keep changing it because I forgot the previous one. So I would say that could be normal. The only reason I remember it now is it is blatantly obvious to me & anyone who cracks 1 PIN (which isn't that hard to guess for someone that knows me personally) has access to my whole life & even more so if they can use my fingerprint when I am asleep.

You should really be going down the legal route to sort this.

So you want his phone contract /pay as go, under your name, and physicall sim in his phone, or both sims in your phone, all done as ppl mentioned.

Also maybe cheap phone with finger print or face unlock, and be careful of scammers
