Poor Bath Waste Water Drainage...

We had our bathroom refurbished a while back and to be honest, the waste shower/bath water has never drained away that fast, but lately it's got worse. Anyway, I had a look under the bath from the cupboard at the tap end of bath and noticed the waste water pipe seems to go a bit of a wierd route! Surely this isn't right? Seems more like a roller coaster route for the water to drain away than a straight forward route! Please can anyone tell me this is A) Ridiculous B) the reason why the water isn't draining away properly C) I should get a plumber in to do it properly. Many thanks!

The white bit (U bend) is correct. The rest is just lazy plumbing. Get a plastic pipe of your own and soften it with a hot air blower to get the modest angle you need.
It might not drain properly due to being bunged up before it goes through the wall

No hot air blower required. Just need to buy and use the correct waste pipe fittings that are designed to be used to make the appropriate fall and height.

Yeah, lazy plumbing also that black pipe looks close to the same height as the white part which would explain it slow draining at the best of times. Why it's slow now is probably due to it being clogged.

Thanks, it's always been slow, but the last day or so been ridiculous. I've put a bottle of chemical unblocker (Mr Muscle) down the plug hole, but it's made no difference, unfortunately.

It has not been piped correctly .

Get them back to replace the pipework correctly.
The bit circled in red where the pipe goes lower and then back up should not be there.
They need to repipe it so that there is no down then up again. That section will probably be full of hair and soap which is causing the blockage. (edited)

Thanks. I can't see your image, unfortunately but I've got an idea where you mean. I've put chemical unblocker down, but it's made no difference, sadly.

The far part is creating another trap ! The water needs to build enough weight to overcome that before it will Syphon away.... Get them back, or DIY - it's easy enough.

That looks to get a steep enough drop for the water but then it runs out of length and so had to go back up! We had the same problem with slow water draining and the plumber said there wasn't enough distance between the exit and entry for the gradient needed. This was caused when my husband got the bath turned around and so the distance was shortened.

They had to turn the tub back.

You mean there was too much distance for the gradient needed? From memory it needs a 1% drop to be effective.

It isn't lazy plumbing, it is shockingly bad plumbing.

Get them back & replace it for free & tell them you will send them the bill if they don't.

    Talk about taking the mick.
