Unlimited broadband & line rental equiv £7/mth. MSE Blagged. From Thurs for a week, TalkTalk Essentials* (avail to 85% of UK) is a super hot deal on a 1 year contract...

    I was tempted by this.

    BUT.

Talk Talk have a terrible reputation for Customer Service - that is, lack of!

So, however cheap it is, I shan't bother - I simply don't want endless hassles .......

    I got this last year.
Paid £114 upfront for line rental for the year. I only pay £3.25pm for broadband & calls. Offer at the time was free love film instant for the year.I already had that so they gave me free installation on the phone line (£50)
Changed over from Sky & didn't notice any difference in broadband speed.
Couldn't be happier, least i'm not paying Sky for tv I never watch.

    £114 is cheapest option (£9.50/month)
If you don't pay upfront it works out at £12.75/month which is what it says in the title

I think it is a cracking offer. I have been with them for almost a year … I think it is a cracking offer. I have been with them for almost a year and there is no different between talk talk and my old provider Orange. I just pay less. I think that was a great saving and recommend it to everybody...Any one knows if this offer only for new customers? Would like to extend my contract with £70 cashback and half price broadband again!!

TT retentions team will normally look to match / better the deals available to new customers at your first mention to TT of your intention of moving to another provider when your existing contract expires.

Thanks for pointing that out, would much rather have the cash than the voucher.

TalkTalk service is unspeakably awful. Took months for them to solve a simple problem - eventually got escalated to the the office of the CEO.
Yes they're cheap, and if you have no tech issues (true 99.9% of the time) then it's a good deal.
If you DO have tech issues then you might end up regretting your choice.
    Make your own decision :-)

I've been with TT for about 3 years on their plus package, unlimited and free calls. I was concerned by their customer service but my neighbour had only good things to say about them. Only hassle I've had is the wireless router needed rebooting regularly. Then they called last month offering TV free. Engineer came, found router had old firmware (which is now available to download). No problems since.
May be worth asking if any neighbours have TT before committing, but I would recommend them. Most problems in the past were about billing after they purchased 3 or 4 large ISP's.

STAY away from TalkTalk.....I would pay double whatever offer they are having to be with another provider.....

    Seconded.

Personally, I don't know Talk Talk because I've never used them, but Virgin Media are, hands down, the worst company I've ever dealt with.

I second that. I worked in their call centre many moons ago when it was NTL. They regularly recruited on mass and they would stick any chimp on the end of a phone with only two weeks training. Many didnt know one end of a keyboard from the other and once they'd gone through their dummys guide to tech support they were up poo creek. Cue very irate customers who had spent £10 on a premium rate line only to be left with no solution and the promise of a callback from another chimp. After one too many death threats from customers who had been passed from one tech to the other I called it a day.

    The message is clear here.

TalkTalk are still as bad as they always have been at Customer Service.

If Customer Service is important to you, then avoid.

However, if you believe you will have no need to contact them - and think everything will go swimmingly - sign up and enjoy cheap Broadband.

Personally, for me, life is too short to spend time giving shoddy Companies my time and efforts.

  20. deleted30178's avatar
Considering the £114 prepaid line rental has, by definition, to be paid upfront, would it not be appropriate to state this in the deal title?
Otherwise appears a decent deal when it become available.

    As it probably changes regularly
I suggest you you give them a
call. They will do all they can to
keep you as a customer so have
    all your details to hand.

I was interested in this until i saw this

Anyone who needs a new line or is on a cable line won't get the voucher.

I rang today to ask a few questions and was assured i would get the voucher and free line install, however im not confident it will come true once signed up.

I've had no issues with Talk Talk since I joined 5 months ago, just making a good saving on what I was paying with Plusnet which at the time had only 10gb and 3mb speed (now 7mb with TT) allowance. TT offered unlimited downloads, great phone line features easily controlled by their online control panel, I'm still waiting for Armageddon to befall me but I'm hoping TT have turned the corner from their grim pass reputation and that they indeed have got their house in order.
I also got these prices and £50 worth of vouchers which arrived 3 days after I was switched over.

Agree with your math but think you need a mod to explain usual site convention of deal titles stating price(s) prior to non-auto-cashback / vouchers.
In this case the minimum payment to the service provider (without prepayments) is £18.20 monthly.

Nicojo, what you said was, "line rent upfront ... £153/yr. Factor the voucher in as cash, and that's £83/yr, equiv to £6.92/mth."

£12.75 is the total when you do pay up front, but don't count your cashback before it hatches, as per the hukd rules, I take it someone edited that for you.

talk talk always get whiny criticism, which is fair comment, i suppose, if you've suffered historically. but i don't see why their service would be anything other than straightforward so i went for it, earlier today.

plus, because of the quidco offer, i joined today too as cashback is preferable to vouchers.

the only thing i was told, as parting shot from Orange, was that talk talk don't use bt lines so there will be a reconnection fee at some point in the future to leave talk talk. but i figure the savings are worth it, for now. plus, get extra 3% by direct debit via santander current account. plus, by then, we'll all be using mobiles instead of landlines so, stuff 'em!

come one, 6.70 per month gotta be worth a punt, no?

The most appalling customer service I have ever experienced from a company.
Got charged a compulsory £50 installation fee for Youview box and the 'engineer' wad so useless that he left my house with the box not working, disconnected my wireless network and I spent all evening reconfiguring my network to get it working again! Unfortunately he fitted it while my wife was there and I was at work.
I have been trying to register s complaint with their 'customer services' department since December, but if you are ever dumb enough to use this company, you'll realize that this is an oxymoronic term.
They have not been voted the worst British company for successive years for nothing! Sign the contract in haste and repent in leisure.
    Voted stone cold.
