sorted byPlus the G2 will sustain 1500MB/s after it's DRAM cache is used up whereas the Crucial P3 drops to around 100MB/S after it can no longer cache data in SLC mode (depending on free space available)
So, horses for courses; I was going to go for the G2 but will likely get the P3 as the drive will get light use and apparently uses very slightly less power (in a thin laptop so heat/battery life is a bit of a deal)
I have ordered and received but not yet opened
1TB 980
1TB Lexar NM710
as I need an external hard drive.
Shoudl I send both back and order this instead?
Makes sense.
Speaking as someone who has had previous Crucial QLC drives fail in less than 18 Months with less than 100TBW, I'm speaking from experience.

Fantastic speed, games load quickly and Windows 11 is super snappy. (edited)
Gaming wise, once developers start utilising the PS5s M2 capabilties - hopefully that'll come across to PCs?
Still got sometime until that happens?
Is my understanding correct?
Would go in my MacBook 2014 have A 256GB Adata in to but could do with bit more space
Looking for fast external storage for Backing Up Macbook Pro - I know folks say this is way overkill & will never be able to utilise max speed & to get a regular SSD instead BUT dedicated external SSD's are way more expensive than this - even regular SSD's which will require a caddy are not cheaper that I can find?
In view of this, is it worth getting an NVME drive like this & an external caddy? Even though the speed will not be fully utilised, will it still be as fast if not faster than an SSD vis USB 3 ports or Thunderbolt 2 ports?
What type/spec of caddy should one get please?
Thank You!
Exceria might be tad faster in OS (probably wouldnt noticed) but Crucial should be signifcantly faster writing large files
Yep, OS/Apps/games.
Easy win for the Kioxia.
Then what, if someone is going to spend a large amound of time writing large files they should get the Crucial, right?
Oh HELL no! No one that plans on writing a lot of data (like video editing) should buy a QLC NAND drive, especially not one made by Crucial.
They should go for a far more durable TLC NAND drive.
You can get a more durable TLC NAND drive for the same price as this Crucial, or even the faster (but still QLC NAND) Kingston NV2 - again - for the same price.
So, this P3 is a pretty pointless drive at this price. (edited)
Would this Kingston drive work in my pc?
Most have for a long time now, so if it's a fairly new board you should be fine but I'd still double check with the Motherboards specs.
In any case, don't bother with this less durable QLC NAND drive, get a TLC NAND drive for the same money, it'll last longer -
