This would work in a PS5 despite being below the RECOMMENDED (not required/minimum) speeds. You should buy a heatsink if you want to use this in a PS5.

How comes Gen 4 drives don’t have a minimum minimum R&W speeds.

Additionally what benefit would a gen 4 drive have over a gen 3 drive with the same speeds?
    MagicBoy's avatar
Gen 4 is the version of the PCIe interface. Why would it have minimum R&W speeds specified, when you can connect anything from a Graphics Card to Musical Instrument interfaces to a Parallel Port from the 80s to it?

    Does it have any cache?
    Is it fast and reliable?
    MagicBoy's avatar
Cache - no. Although it uses HMB, so the mapping tables that used to live in DRAM use system RAM instead.
Fast - quick enough that I've never noticed a problem.
Reliable - so far. Too soon to tell.

Why? It’s very easy to add in your own drive and you save a lot of money doing so.
