Buy 3 years worth of Xbox live gold, and then convert it to games pass ultimate. It cost me £120 for 3 years of games pass ultimate, which equates to £10 for 3 months.
I could have done this for less too, if I'd have used a VPN to buy gold card codes from different markets, and optimised this slightly.
I bought:
2 x 12 month gold codes
1x 6 month gold code
1 x 3 month games pass ultimate (GPU) code
I bought the 3 month GPU code first (on sale, before I knew about this method --money could be saved here).
Once learning about this method, I had to wait until my existing GPU sub expired (check auto renew is off!) as the 1:1 gold to GPU only works if you're not already subscribed to GPU (if you are subscribed it's 3:1!).
Step 1: redeem 12 month gold card and accept 1 month extra free for turning on auto renewal
Step 2: turn off auto renew for gold subscription
Step 3: repeat step 1 and 2 until you have accrued 36 months of gold subscription, less the amount of GPU membership you have to redeem.
Step 4: redeem GPU code which converts all the gold you had in to 36 months of GPU membership.
My example (not optimal, but close):
1) 12 month gold + 1 month free for auto renewal
2) 12 month gold + 1 month free for auto renewal
3) 6 month gold + 1 month free for auto renewal
4) 3 month GPU
Total = 36 months GPU membership for £120
Tips:
1) the 1:1 conversion only works if you are NOT ALREADY SUBSCRIBED TO GPU, otherwise 3:1 gold : GPU.
2) If you've never had GPU you might be able to upgrade to GPU for £1 as a first time promo (I couldn't that's why I bought the 3 month GPU code, with hindsight I should have bought the cheapest / shortest duration GPU code available)
3) 36 months is the max amount of gold sub you can stack. If you have 25 months stacked already, you might not be able to apply a third 12 month gold code.
4) Plan how you're going to buy gold codes, and in what amounts to optimise getting 36 months of gold as cheap as possible (maybe use a VPN and buy from whichever market is cheapest). (edited)

No it’s been confirmed any EA Play on your Microsoft account.
You just need to redeem it with a Brazil server vpn on.
Although to be honest the cheapest way to get GPU is just to use a vpn to access a cheap foreign store and purchase a year directly from Microsoft in a poor region. I think Hungary was about £20 a year last time I bought it
You can get Gold from anywhere, up to 3 years. Then when you take out the £1 first month offer for Game Pass it will convert you to Game Pass Ultimate for every month you have of Live.
Unless your game pass has run out, and then it does convert 1:1 (unless it's changed very recently!).
I've had game pass ultimate since February, let it run out for a week, got three years worth of Brazil gold via vpn, then converted it all for £10.99 last month. Three years of game pass ultimate is epic for under £100, especially as I have a PC and an Android phone to play on. I'm currently playing 'No Man's Sky' with my son, him on the Xbox and me on the PC.
With the method I used, your GPU must be expired first. You can still get up to 3 years GPU conversion (with gold live) even if you have already had a year from the £1 offer.

i am ps defect this year and i bought 3x 12 months xblg for £23 each from eneba and then added them to my new account using a vpn and then used the £1 game pass ultimate trial to convert the 36 months of xbxlg to game pass ultimate...so for £71 I have 3 years worth of xbox games, old and new ones released by microsoft games studios being added to game pass ultimate and ea play games (edited)

Honestly I am not sure. I have seen people say they have done it after already having the £1 trial but I wouldn’t want to tell you it works and then it doesn’t.
Just to be clear - If you buy EA play for a year it will only convert to GPU if you have GPU on November the 10th! Otherwise you will just have a year of EA play. So just make sure you buy a month's GPU now for a £1/£10.99/£18.49 depending on your options/preference and it will auto convert. EA play isn't disappearing.

Gold is playing online, so if he wants to play a game online with other people u need gold, game pass if the huge libary of games xbox has built, big games like red dead 2 and GTA V for example were there for 6 months and then left. Smaller games like hollow knight (good game btw, 2d platformer) might stay for a year or even longer. The two together game pass + gold make Game Pass Ultimate (GPU).
Converting, So not 100% what ur getting ur son but check an unboxing out and see what codes come with it, if it is a Xbox One X, looks like 1 month game pass and a 2 week gold trial (idk if the trial will convert). So if u havent ever had Game Pass Ultimate or ur subscription has run out (mine ran out a few months ago) then you can add 1 year of gold and then convert it to 1 years GPU (by buying a month of GPU, currently on sale on the xbox dashboard for £1 so in the end u will have !2+1=13 months GPU) in a 1:1 conversion rate (xbox has these conversions somewhere) same with gamepass 1:1 conversion. We can stack up to 3 years worth.
cdkeys.com/12-…360 (£45*3) nice and simple buy 3 years and convert it for £1, u loose the last month as u can only have 36 months max but thats the easiest way to do it. £135 for 3 years of GPU, all those games the Xbox Series X gameplay has been flashing including probably State of Decay 3 will probably all come out in the next 3 years and be on this game pass day 1, and if it is a xbox studio like Doom, Forza, Halo, Fable, Grounded they will all be there forever.

I game share with my uncle, between the 2 of us we stacked 3 years and then converted it, so if he has a friend or someone u can trust game share is really good. A sets his home console on B and B sets his home console at A, u can change this i think 3 times a year. That way if A buys a game B can use it and vice versa. in this case we stacked 3 years of gamepass on his account and i can use it. (he doesnt have to be signed in on my console just has to be his home console. But in-game purchases wont share, but DLC we buy do share.
IDK if we still count as EU though so that would have to be doubled checked with the folks here

To add u can also start using Microsoft reward, u can earn 500 points a day rom using Bing as a search engine, which is 15k points a month, game pass ultimate is 12k points a month, and £5 gift card (stacked high enough u can buy a Xbox Series X) is 6000 points both go on "sale" so 10k and 5k occasionally. so worth checking out.

Depends what you want to play Microsoft recommend 10MBps down and 9 up but I tried to play F1 and it just wasn't responsive enough on a 60 down 20 up but Minecraft was good and some others but call of duty was no where near also make sure you have 5ghz WiFi or its a waste of time on 2.4.

Didn't understand the £1 converting all months of remaining game-pass things... I was searching for a 12 months game-pass (non ultimate) card to activate this on but they didnt seem to exist, just XBLgold... which I didn't think worked with PC. urgh!
Now it's too late to use the £1 upgrade more efficiently as i now have ultimate haha! dammit..
