Kingston A400 960GB SSD

Incredible speeds plus rock-solid reliability.

Kingston's A400 solid-state drive dramatically improves the responsiveness of your existing system with incredible boot, loading, and transfer times compared to mechanical hard drives. Powered by a latest-gen controller for read and write speeds up to 500MB/s and 450MB/s, this SSD is 10x faster than a traditional hard drive¹ for higher performance, ultra-responsive multi-tasking, and an overall faster system.

Also, more reliable and durable than a hard drive, A400 is built with Flash memory. There are no moving parts, making it less likely to fail than a mechanical hard drive. It's also cooler and quieter, and its shock and vibration resistance makes it ideal for notebooks and other mobile computing devices.

A400 is available in multiple capacities from 120GB-960GB to give you all the space you need for applications, videos, photos and other important documents. You can also replace your hard drive or a smaller SSD with a drive big enough to hold all your files.

  • Fast start-up, loading, and file transfers
  • More reliable and durable than a hard drive
  • Multiple capacities with space for applications or a hard drive replacement

Features

  • 10x faster than a HDD - With incredible read/write speeds the A400 SSD will not only increase performance but can also be used to breathe new life into older systems.
  • Rugged - A400 is shock- and vibration-resistant for rugged reliability when used in notebooks and other mobile computing devices.
  • Multiple capacities - Available in 120GB, 240GB, 480GB, and 960GB capacities, A400 is designed to suit anyone's needs.
  • Ideal for desktops and notebooks - A400 has a 7mm form factor to fit in a wider array of systems. It's ideal for slimmer notebooks and in systems with limited available space.

Nothing will prepare you for the sub 5400rpm IDE speeds you'll see when this gets over 80% full. I thought the problem was the PS4 I had it in but results were just as bad on a pc. Great drive if you only need 750GB.

    Cracking price.
Some might wince at the fairly low TBW, but these have Kioxia NAND and Kioxia always understate their TBW values, they usually last MUCH longer than the stated TBW. (edited)

A very reliable drive that has never caused any issues for me so far after nearly 10,000 hours of use

Thinking about getting this to upgrade my 500gb PS4 slim. I'm surprised 2.5" SSDs aren't cheaper now that M.2 ones can be had for basically the same price

I've bunged one in my PS4. Been using these drives for about 6 years in PC's. Never had a drive fail yet.

    Go for it.

Has anyone run 2, 3 or even 4 SSDs like this (TLC chips) in RAID0? Or do you know if it increases wear on the drives? I'm tempted to buy a few and could always run in JBOD but if there's the option of a performance boost without much drive degradation, I might as well stripe them.

I've been looking to buy a large SSD to install games on and knowing that it doesn't improve game performance by much, if at all, I've been waiting for economical pricing - this seems to be it! However, I need more than 960GB so it will mean multiples. (edited)

    Shouldn't increase wear.
If running 4 or more, I'd go with RAID5 just for a bit of protection in case a drive fails.
As the price has dropped again, losing 1 drives worth of storage isn't that costly. (edited)
