What's the difference between QLC and TLC and is 3D NAND different again?

QLC is lower endurance and cheaper to manufacture.
For most people the endurance is fine as long as they don't use it for write intensive tasks like video editing.

If it's cheaper to manufacture than a TLC drive, it should cost less (this effectively costs more than the SP as it's a little smaller).

Still, it didn't stop this deal getting more heat in less than 1 hour than my SP deal has got in over a week, lol.

    EDIT:
    is 3D NAND different agai

    Sorry, missed that bit.
3D NAND refers to the way the cells are stacked (3D is vertically, while older 2D NAND was side by side).

TLC & QLC refers to how many bits can be stored in a cell (Triple Layer Cell, Quad Layer Cell).
The more bits that are stored in a cell the more times that cell will be written to, so the quicker it will die.
    That's why TLC is better.

Back in the old days we had MLC (Multi Level Cell, but was actually 2 levels) and SLC (Single).
They cost a fortune, my first SSD was MLC and was £300 for 120GB, lol. (edited)

QLC NAND, the Silicon Power 512GB SATA SSD which is TLC NAND can be had for the same price. (edited)

It was, sold out now though.

It’s better, but only subjectively “better” if you’re looking to spend more than 3x as much.

I've had the 240GB version of this SU630 series for a while (3 yrs poss), most of the time it is OK but at times it can get very hot. It wasn't like that for the first year or so. This does not seem to depend on the intensity of demand that is put on it, it seems very random. Might just be a dodgy drive. (edited)

Had one of these in my old workstation to hold SQL Server databases for dev work. Not exactly the most reliable of drives. Was on my third when the warranty ended.

I would not recommend these drives they always been poor on demand

Amazing price, I used on of these in a 10 year old laptop and it makes it very usable compared to the slow mechanical drive it had.... makes useless junk become usable again. Under £20 for 480GB SSD - golden times, they won't last once they've got shot of all that surplus memory chip stock.
