Does anyone know how the Dell Alienware range compares to the legion, in build and performance, ignoring the pretty colours, battery Life and weight.

Is it as well respected? (edited)

I've owned an Alienware laptop for 15 year, swapping about every 3 years. It's a guilty exstravance that comes from wanting one in my youth, so as soon I got old enough and saved the pennies I bought one. I know many scoff, but IMO that decision has served me well

You're paying a premium for the brand, but they make fantastic laptops - brilliant quality that I've not seen matched by anyone (including Legion). They pack a lot in, and every latest edition I have had easily handle games at high settings. I do a lot of design on Fusion 360 and Video Editing, and it doesn't miss a beat

They're heavy, get hot and can be loud - again, they pack a lot in so there is tradeoff

I love it, and it's never given me any issue other than a faulty WiFi card which was easily replaced. One thing to consider with Alianware Laptops is that they hold their value well on the resell market.

Are there any 'alternate' means of getting hold of a student discount for Dell?

    Taking a student hostage.

Seems a great deal, completesavings are offering 12% at the moment too

Complete savings is a Cashback website, it's invite only and you usually get invited when you make a purchase at Argos or ebay etc. It will come up with a scammy looking pop up after you've purchased something and say something like claim £16.87 Cashback for this purchase. The downside is it costs £15 a month but if you make a purchase with the retailer you initially signed up with you get £15 a month bonus Cashback. So it is essentially free if you make a purchase from the place you signed up with every month. I used ebay as you can just buy something for a £1 if you really don't need anything. The upside is they offer 10% plus Cashback at 100s of retailers and you also get £20 off a £100 gift card a month.

i saw another deal was intel 12700 under student discount maybe 50 extra,is it worth the extra?
    TomEB88's avatar
I’m pondering over the same. Intel seems significantly faster across the board; only thing I’m unsure about is the thermals.

1080p on a 15.6" display? Yuck. That shouldn't be allowed in 2023. Games are going to look grainy even on the highest settings, and browsing the web won't be a nice experience either. (edited)

It looks fine actually but any bigger screen deffo want 1440p

    Usefull thanks

Shame it's 1080p 165z, should be 240hz min for 1080p, but ideally would of been a better deal if it was qhd
  10. Tiberiusric's avatar
There is a QHD version sadly £500 more when you take off this discount eek!

For the spec if it had QHD would have been a great buy. (edited)

these 30 series laptops rarely have 1440p which i really want

Is this worth it? Or is it worth spending 2k. I want something that can drive a 3440x1440 monitor at decent FPS occasionally.
    petermcgregor14's avatar
    3070ti should do that mate

300nits display which is about average for AMD systems (too many are 250nits if there is ANY AMD tech inside).
    dell.com/sup…-us

Anyone know if this laptop can be charged with a PD adapter? The listed "Power Delivery (5V/3A) capabilities" must be for external devices. You could easily stream full-screen 1080p content on a 65W PD adapter if that's supported. (edited)

Would 10% still track back with the  Halifax cash back extras, with each of the discount codes activated?
    Xelebrindal's avatar

It should do unless it's stated in the terms and conditions of the Halifax deal that cashback won't be provided on the use of a discount code.
